The Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, AMU, Aligarh, UP. is part of the Aligarh Muslim University, an Institution of National importance (Seventh Schedule, Article 246 of the Indian Constitution), NAAC – Accredited with CGPA of 3.35 on Four-Point Scale at “A+” Grade.
The Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College established in 1962 has been ranked in top 15 Medical colleges in India and presently ranked 29 among Medical Colleges by NIRF. College has 27 Departments/Centres and admitting 150 MBBS and above 222 postgraduate, 06 M. Ch & 04 DM students every year. It is successfully running post graduate programmes in almost all specialties including College of Nursing and Para Medical College. It also privileged with 220+ qualified and experienced teachers.
The hospital provides quality specialized patient care at nominal cost. The Staff and doctors played a decisive role in recent pandemic. The college was one of the centers of ICMR Covaxin trials and was the first to enroll 1,000 volunteers for the vaccine trial. The efforts of the doctors were lauded by the hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. The college has a cherished history and has earned for itself a place of pride in the field of medical education.
The Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College has been ranked 29th in the Medical Category, by National Institutional Ranking Framework, MHRD, Govt. of India.
Hospital Statistics in General
Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College Hospital is a 1,269-bedded tertiary care centre that delivers affordable healthcare services to all sections of society, with particular emphasis on economically weaker groups. During the year 2025–26, a total of 1,104,141 patients attended 26 outpatient departments. Additionally, 128,720 patients were admitted across 23 wards, and 32,738 major and minor surgical procedures were carried out.The hospital recorded 8,938 births, including 4,013 lower segment caesarean sections (LSCS), and reported 3,447 deaths. The overall bed occupancy rate stood at 78.73%. The Central Laboratory conducted 1,112,464 blood and pathological investigations, while 331,042 radiological procedures were performed. Furthermore, 34,034 patients underwent cardiac evaluation through electrocardiography (ECG).Blood Bank Services
A total of 33,728 blood units were collected, while 50,247 units of blood and its components were supplied. Of these, 12,142 units were issued as life-saving support to patients, and 2,995 units were provided for individuals with thalassemia. Additionally, 54 voluntary blood donation camps were organized, contributing 3,121 units of blood.
Central Sterilization Unit /C.S.S.D
In order to keep high level of Surgical Sterilization Services, CSSD functions 24X7 with trained and dedicated staff. 1, 69,198 items were sterilized with general sterilization procedures. Around 17,484 items were subjected to advanced methods (ETO).
District Early Intervention Centre-centre of excellence(DEIC-COE),
The District Early Intervention Centre & Centre of Excellence (DEIC-COE) was established in August, 2017 with a grant of Rs. 06.90 crore from Govt. of India. The main aim of DEIC-COE is early detection and management of 4 Ds prevalent in children. These are Defects at birth, Diseases, Deficiency and Development delay including Disabilities. The idea behind early intervention is to intervene early and minimize disability. All services are free of cost with no out of pocket expense by parents.
In the session 2025-2026 the
center has registered 10501 patients (2529 New and 7972 Old) during 01.04.2025
to 31.03.2026. The patients are mostly referred by Mobile Health Team at block
level of Aligarh district in coordination with District Health Society and CMO
Office.
While children with Disease, Deficiency and Developmental Delay including disabilities are managed at DEIC-COE, children with birth defects are referred to respective departments of J. N. Medical College for further management.

Interdisciplinary Pediatric Cardiac Centre (IPCC)
The IPCC was established in March 2018 with 15.00cr grant from Govt. of India, which was later upgraded to Interdisciplinary Pediatric Cardiac Centre (IPCC) in August 2021. The amin object of IPCC is to provide comprehensive cardiac care to children from undeserved community free of cost.
The IPCC consist of dedicated Pediatric Catheterization Lab., Pediatric Modular Operation Theatre, state of art 05 bedded Pediatric Cardiac ICU and a 06 bedded General ward. The Unit has registered 747 patients between 01.04.2025 to 31.03.2026. A total of 200 Cardiac Surgeries and Interventions have been done during this period. 5461 Echocardiography and 974 Fetal Echocardiography have been done during the period.
Project running in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery
J.N. Medical College, AMU, Aligarh, continued to emerge as a leading centre of excellence in advanced cardiothoracic and vascular surgery during 2025–26, delivering comprehensive adult and pediatric cardiac care with expertise in minimally invasive cardiac surgery (MICS), MIDCAB, VATS, valve repair, and complex congenital heart surgeries. The department successfully performed nearly 800 major cardiothoracic and vascular procedures, including high-risk pediatric surgeries in children weighing less than 5 kg, a distinction that makes it one of the few centres of its kind in Uttar Pradesh. With significant contributions to research, academic excellence, national healthcare programmes such as RBSK and AB-PMJAY, and the development of cardiothoracic services across India, the department has established itself as a pioneering institution in advanced cardiac care, surgical innovation, training, and public health outreach.
Project running in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology
J. N. Medical College & Hospital, AMU, Aligarh is having Memorandum of Understanding with Ali Yavar Jung National Institute for Speech and Hearing Disabilities (Divyangjan) under the Department of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India since April 2021. The children with hearing and speech disabilities are provided free of cost and dedicated care through specialised Cochlear Implant & Hearing Rehabilitation Clinic by the Department of Otorhinolaryngology. Our Institution successfully conducted Cochlear Implant Surgeries for Two (02) patients under this MoU in the last year, aligning with its mission to enhance the quality of life for individuals with hearing impairments.

National Viral Hepatitis Control Program (NVHCP) under NHM
JNMCH is a designated Medical Treatment Centre by National Viral Hepatitis Control Program (NVHCP) under aegis of National Health Mission (NHM). We have diagnosed and treated Hep-C 844 patients andHep-B 850 patients this year with free testing and anti viral drugs. Total NVHCP Fund is Rs 3,20,000/- for disease testing, health camps and treatment.Dr. Parvez and Dr. Haider are nodal officers of NVHCP.

Thalassemia Treatment and Patient Registration At ICHH Centre
Thalassemia is a genetic blood disorder characterized by short RBC survival due increased break down survival. Effective management and treatment are essential for improving the quality of life and longevity of patients affected by this condition.
Total 262 of Thalassemia registered patients in ICHH centre.
Thalassemia Treatment Facilities at ICHH
Regular Blood (PRBC) Transfusions: For most patients, especially those with beta-thalassemia major, regular PRBC transfusions are the mainstay of treatment. These transfusions help maintain adequate hemoglobin levels and prevent complications related to anemia. Patients typically require transfusions every 3-4 weeks, but may require more frequent transfusions.
Iron Chelation: While blood transfusions are crucial, they also contribute to iron overload in the body, which can damage organs. Iron chelation therapy is administered to remove excess iron from the blood. Common chelating agents include Deferasirox and Deferiprone.
Folic Acid Supplementation: Patients are often prescribed folic acid supplements to support red blood cell production and overall health.
Psychological support: Managing thalassemia extends beyond medical treatment to include psychological and social support for patients and their families, addressing the emotional and social aspects of living with the condition.

Treatment of Hemophilia Patient At Our Centre
Hemophilia is a serious, potentially crippling and life threatening hereditary bleeding disorder characterized by deficiencies in specific clotting factors, leading to prolonged bleeding disorders. Effective management and treatment are critical for improving the quality of life for patients with this condition.
Treatment protocols: The treatment plans for hemophilia patients at our centre primarily focus on free of cost factor replacement therapy, which involves administering the specific clotting factor that is deficient. These factors are supplied by the NHM through SGPFI Lucknow, which supplies clotting factors as needed as per availability.
Total 278 of Hemophilia registered patients in ICHH centre.
Factors influencing treatment outcomes:
- Access to factors concentrates: timely availability of the appropriate clotting factors is crucial for effective management, particularly during bleeding episodes.
- Patient education: educating patients and their families about the condition and its management helps in reducing complications and improving adherence to treatment.
- Regular monitoring: Routine follow-up and monitoring of patients allow for adjustments in therapy when necessary, mitigating potential bleeding complications.

J.N. MEDICAL COLLEGE LIBRARY
The Faculty Library, JNMC, serves as a knowledge hub for the entire medical fraternity of Aligarh Muslim University. It represents the college’s commitment to providing the best possible library and information services to its clientele. It caters to the information needs of approximately 2000 users of the Faculty of Medicine, Dental College, Institute of Ophthalmology and the School of Nursing. After Maulana Azad Library, it is the only library in the campus which remains open from 8.00 A.M.-2.00 A.M. (18 hrs. a day) including Sundays and other holidays.
It is a pleasure to inform you that under the visionary leadership of our Principal & CMS, significant initiatives are undertaken in this academic year to modernize and enhance the library’s facilities in alignment with the evolving educational needs and requirement of National Medical Commission (NMC). One of the key developments is the establishment of a Digital Resources Centre (DRC) within the library. This Centre is designed to provide students and faculty with enhanced access to digital learning materials, including e-books, online journals, and academic and research databases in order to support a more flexible and technology-integrated learning environment.
Furthermore, the National Medical Library (NML), New Delhi, has been kind enough to re-select J. N. Medical College to provide free full-text access to some of the major Health and Allied Sciences databases i.e. AccessMedicine by McGraw-Hill, ClinicalKey by Elsevier, MedOne Education by Thieme, BMJ Best Practice,BMJ Learning and BMJ RTOP under the ERMED consortium for the year 2025-2026. All the faculty, staff and students at JNMC, AMU can access the resource to know the latest methods of diagnosis, management and therapy to improve patient care.
The Aligarh Muslim University has subscribed to BMJ Case Reports for the calendar year 2026 to support academic, clinical learning, and research activities by providing access to a wide range of peer-reviewed case studies. Additionally, by using the provided Fellowship Code, the students and faculty of JNMC may submit any number of cases for free publication in BMJ Case Reports. In addition, the university has also renewed its subscription to UP-to-Date (Evidence-Based Clinical Decision Support System), one of the most important informational resources for healthcare professionals, so that P.G. students, clinicians, and other teaching staff at the J.N. Medical College can access the best health information. According to UpToDate’s yearly usage statistics report, the use of UpToDate by the students and faculty of JN Medical Collegeis 65,976 (March 2025-February 2026).
As regarding the availability of online resources, subscription to a large number of e-resources /databases such as SciFinder Scholar, Scopus by Elsevier, has been renewed for the current academic year. Furthermore, the students and faculty of J. N. Medical College have perpetual access to several e-book databases such as Oxford Medicine Online (OxMed), Thieme Clinical Collection (383 ebooks), Springer E-books (646 ebooks) and CBS Publishers (30 e-books). Recently with the help of CALIBRE E-book Management Software, a database of open source and subscribed eBooks has been developed for quick and easy access. This E-book System now contains a total of 904 e-books, which can be accessed within campus at http://10.16.43.112:8080/.
In addition, the Government of India scheme ‘One Nation One Subscription (ONOS)’ for accessing thousands of online academic journals from 30 renowned publishers has been implemented since 1st January 2025. ONOS resources are now accessible across the AMU campus. The access links of ERMED and ONOS resources are available on the Homepage of the Medical College Library Website. The university has also renewed its subscription toRefRead (AMU E-Library)- A digital library platform (https://amu.refread.com) containing three main features Single Window Search Facility, Off Campus Access Facility and Mobile App to provide access to the subscribed e-resources i.e. Journal Articles, e-books, e-contents and databases etc. from anywhere within and outside the University Campus. All the medical e-content subscribed by JNMC library and consortia-based subscription through NML-ERMED and One Nation, One Subscription (ONOS) is now integrated and accessible through this digital platform.
The website of the Faculty Library, JNMC, has been updated regularly and all the e-resources have been gathered together under the ‘E-Resources’ category for easy access. In addition, to improve the academic and research activities in the university, some of the subscribed & open-source research support tools, i.e. Grammarly, Turnitin, Mendeley, are gathered under the ‘Research Support’ tab along with the link to the required proforma for users to create/ activate their accounts. The university has also subscribed to Quillbot – a paraphrasing tool for researchers from this year. The Online Document Delivery Service is initiated to help specified users in obtaining copies of articles/research papers and book chapters that they require for curriculum support and research purposes.
The University library system has recently adopted KOHA: An open source integrated library management software in place of LIBSYS: a proprietary library management software. Most of the data related to computerized library OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) of Faculty Library, JNMC have been transferred successfully to this new system.
As regarding the progress in the procurement of printed resources during April 1, 2025 to March 31, 2026, a total number of 30 books (04 purchased+26 Gift) were added to the collection. Also as per NMC norms, approximately 13 National and International print journals were subscribed for year 2025 and the recommendation of approximately 45 journals were sent for subscription for the year 2026.
Moreover, the Faculty Library has strong book bank collection, which caters to the need of all MBBS/BDS students. The book bank consists of prescribed textbooks recommended by the concerned faculty members for different courses. Books from the book bank are issued at the beginning of each semester. The borrowers have to pay 20% of the total cost of the book, as a rental charges per semester. The total number of books available in the book bank collection is 6,345.
In terms of the library’s infrastructure development, the Centralized Air-conditioning facility has been provided to the students & staff in order to create a conducive atmosphere for the users. Moreover, to ensure the safety of the entire library and its users, the Reading Halls and other areas of the Faculty Library are monitored by CCTV Cameras. The JN Medical College library also offers a low-cost Xerox facility for the benefit of its faculty, staff, and students.
Central Animal House
The Central Animal House (CAH), Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, AMU caters to the experimental animal need of Faculty members, M.D., M.S., and Ph.D students for their research work. The Central Animal House is registered with the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying - CCSEA, Government of India. Furthermore, animal related requirements, infrastructure, and staff at the Central Animal House are annually inspected by nominees of the Ministry/CCSEA along with members of the Institutional Animal Ethics Committee (IAEC) as prescribed by the Ministry and National Medical Commission. The last inspection has been carried out on 24-12-2025. The Central Animal House opens on all days and round the clock. The staffs of Centre Animal House works in three shifts and strictly follows the SOP related to hygiene, diet and care of animals.
During 2025-2226, following animals were used for research purpose.
Rat : Rattus norvegicus Charles foster strain.
Rabbit : Oryctolagus Cuniculus New Zealand white strain.
Central Photography & Audio Visual Section
The Central photography & Audio-Visual Section has been working since 5thMay 1970 rendering its technical services to all the departments of the faculty of Medicine and hospital and covering academic and non-academic functions of the college.
The Section has provided the facilities of public address system, projection of slides through Multimedia system for teaching and academic function like conference, seminar, CME’s, symposium and extension lectures of the college.
