The department of Anatomy came into existence concurrently with the JN Medical College on 2nd October 1962 with intake of 1st Batch of 40 MBBS students which continued up to 1984. Intake was increased to 100 students in 1985 and subsequently in the academic session of 1996-97 increased to 150. BDS course began at the same time with intake of 40 students. Department is also running MD (Anatomy) course with intake of 3 PG/year. For Gross Anatomy teaching department has embalming facility, cadaver storage tank and cold storage plant and Gross anatomy laboratory for 150 students at a time, Museum with sufficient number of dissected/displayed parts/specimens of human body/models/charts, and 3 demonstration/tutorial rooms with capacity of 50 each. For microscopic anatomy there is UG histology laboratory and Postgraduate research lab. Computer lab is for both teaching UG and research activity of PG. One seminar room is used for PG seminar and journal club, as a part PG training. Equipments include cadaver injector, electric saw, different kinds of microtomes (rotary, sliding and freezing), distillation plant, overhead and slide projectors, incubator and ovens, computers, laptop and LCD projector. Research laboratories include PG research lab, Neuroanatomy and Embryology cum Teratology lab. A small departmental library needs to be updated. At the moment department has one ICMR-funded research project. Teachers of the department have published their research works in many reputed national and international journals.

एनाटॉमी विभाग 2 अक्टूबर 1962 को जेएन मेडिकल कॉलेज के साथ-साथ 40 एमबीबीएस छात्रों के पहले बैच के प्रवेश के साथ अस्तित्व में आया जो 1984 तक जारी रहा। 1985 में और उसके बाद 1996-97 के शैक्षणिक सत्र में प्रवेश को बढ़ाकर 100 छात्रों तक कर दिया गया। बढ़कर 150 हो गया। बीडीएस पाठ्यक्रम 40 छात्रों के प्रवेश के साथ एक ही समय में शुरू हुआ। विभाग 3 पीजी/वर्ष के प्रवेश के साथ एमडी (एनाटॉमी) पाठ्यक्रम भी चला रहा है। ग्रॉस एनाटॉमी शिक्षण विभाग के पास शव लेप बनाने की सुविधा, शव भंडारण टैंक और कोल्ड स्टोरेज प्लांट और एक समय में 150 छात्रों के लिए ग्रॉस एनाटॉमी प्रयोगशाला, पर्याप्त संख्या में विच्छेदित/प्रदर्शित भागों/मानव शरीर के नमूने/मॉडल/चार्ट और 3 प्रदर्शन के साथ संग्रहालय है। प्रत्येक 50 की क्षमता वाले ट्यूटोरियल रूम। सूक्ष्म शरीर रचना विज्ञान के लिए यूजी ऊतक विज्ञान प्रयोगशाला और स्नातकोत्तर अनुसंधान प्रयोगशाला है। कंप्यूटर लैब यूजी को पढ़ाने और पीजी की अनुसंधान गतिविधि दोनों के लिए है। एक सेमिनार कक्ष का उपयोग पीजी प्रशिक्षण के एक भाग के रूप में पीजी सेमिनार और जर्नल क्लब के लिए किया जाता है। उपकरणों में कैडेवर इंजेक्टर, इलेक्ट्रिक आरा, विभिन्न प्रकार के माइक्रोटोम्स (रोटरी, स्लाइडिंग और फ्रीजिंग), डिस्टिलेशन प्लांट, ओवरहेड और स्लाइड प्रोजेक्टर, इनक्यूबेटर और ओवन, कंप्यूटर, लैपटॉप और एलसीडी प्रोजेक्टर शामिल हैं। अनुसंधान प्रयोगशालाओं में पीजी अनुसंधान प्रयोगशाला, न्यूरोएनाटॉमी और भ्रूणविज्ञान सह टेराटोलॉजी प्रयोगशाला शामिल हैं। एक छोटे विभागीय पुस्तकालय को अद्यतन करने की आवश्यकता है। फिलहाल विभाग के पास आईसीएमआर द्वारा वित्त पोषित एक अनुसंधान परियोजना है। विभाग के शिक्षकों ने अपने शोध कार्यों को कई प्रतिष्ठित राष्ट्रीय और अंतर्राष्ट्रीय पत्रिकाओं में प्रकाशित किया है।
