Prof. Mujahid Beg obtained his MBBS and MD from Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, AMU, Aligarh. He was initially appointed as Clinical Registrar/Senior Resident in March 1987 and later joined the Department of Medicine as Lecturer/Assistant Professor in August 1992. He has approximately 33 years of Clinical and Teaching experience in the field of Medicine with special interest in the field of neurology and has developed fully equipped Neurology Lab in the Department of Medicine. Dr. Beg has to his credit 78 Research publications in various National and International Journals and presented more than 39 papers in different National and International conferences. His 03 Research Publications were adjudged for best Paper presentation in different National and International Conferences. Having keen interest in Research and Academic activities, he got opportunities to chair various Scientific Sessions and also served as faculty in different National and International Forums. He was honoured with the prestigious Fellowships from various Academic bodies; Fellowship of Indian Academy of Clinical Medicine (FIACM), Fellowship of Geriatric Society of India (FGSI) and Fellowship of Indian College of Physicians (FICP).  

Prof. Beg is an able administrator and has leadership qualities with organisational acumen. He has the distinction of being elected twice to Executive Council-The highest governing body of the University and in that capacity he served the university for a period of 6 years. Also, being the member of the Academic Council and AMU Court, his contributions have been exemplary, in taking decisions about the academic matters and final policy making decisions of the University, respectively.

After taking the charge of the Department of Medicine as Chairman, he carried forward manifolds the infrastructural and academic/research activities of the Department by establishing fully equipped Neurology Lab, Skill Lab for teaching and training of Under Graduate and Post-Graduate students, upgradation of Critical Care ward with Ultrasound and Mechanical Ventilators, extension of Seminar room and installation of State-of-Art audio-visual system for teaching and training of undergraduate and postgraduate students. Prof. Beg, being the Chairman of Department of medicine worked tirelessly and was instrumental in increasing the postgraduate MD Medicine seats from 12 to 21 in the academic session 2020-2021, the only increment since 1968.

Prof. Beg has also served as Chief Proctor/Proctor of Aligarh Muslim University and is currently serving the University, as Dean Student’s Welfare (DSW). He was the founder of Junior Doctors Organisation (JDO) at JNMCH, AMU, presently known as Resident’s Doctors Association (RDA) wherein he served as founder treasurer and President for two consecutive terms. Also, Prof. Beg served as President, Aligarh Muslim University Teacher Association (AMUTA) and Vice President, Federation of Central Universities Teachers Association (FEDCUTA) for 3 years and has thus served as bridge between the teaching community and the University Administration and Govt. of India for redressal of Teachers grievances.

Temperamentally, Prof. Beg is an astute person with attention to details. He is a team-worker and detests being an egoist boss. He is a patient listener of diverse opinions on matters of significance and desists taking hasty decisions or in a huff. He prefers unanimity on matters of far reaching consequences.
