The Department of Medicine at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University focuses on key subspecialty domains aligned with institutional goals, patient care needs, and academic excellence. The thrust areas are as follows:

1. Nephrology

Comprehensive management of acute and chronic kidney diseases
Advanced renal replacement therapies (hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, CRRT)
Management of glomerular diseases and diabetic kidney disease
Focus on CKD prevention, early detection, and outcome-based research

2. Hepatology

Diagnosis and management of acute and chronic liver diseases
Management of viral hepatitis, cirrhosis, and its complications
Liver failure management including critical care support
Research in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and liver fibrosis

3. Gastroenterology

Evaluation and management of gastrointestinal disorders
Diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures
Management of inflammatory bowel disease, GI malignancies, and infections
Nutritional support and GI-related metabolic disorders

4. Rheumatology

Diagnosis and management of autoimmune and connective tissue disorders
Management of diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, SLE, vasculitis
Use of biologics and immunomodulatory therapies
Focus on early diagnosis and long-term disease monitoring

5. Neurology

Management of acute neurological emergencies (stroke, seizures, encephalopathy)
Care of chronic neurological disorders (epilepsy, neurodegenerative diseases)

6. Critical Care Medicine

Management of critically ill patients in ICU settings

PROGRAM OUTCOME FOR MD MEDICINE STUDENTS

An M.D Medicine postgraduate is expected to practice the following:

Medical Research – Ability to retrieve & analyze biomedical information from appropriate resources and utilize it within a quantitative and statistical framework to solve clinical problems and make decisions
