Prof. Mohammad Nazrul Bari is associated with the Department of History, Centre of Advanced Study (CAS), Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh (Uttar Pradesh). He specializes in Ancient Indian History and Archaeology. Prior to joining AMU, he taught at the Central University of Karnataka, Savitribai Phule Pune University, and the University of Kashmir.

He is a recipient of the prestigious Nicholas Lowick Memorial Fund Award from the Royal Numismatic Society, London, which supported his research work at the British Museum and the Ashmolean Museum. Prof. Bari has also participated in academic engagements in Iran, Sri Lanka, and Thailand.

He also has a keen interest in contemporary politics of West Asia and Afghanistan and has contributed articles and popular writings on these subjects. With numerous publications in reputed national and international journals, his research primarily focuses on the socio-economic and cultural aspects of early Indian history. 

He is the author of the book Material Life of Northern India (c. 600 BCE–300 BCE) (2017) and the editor of the following volumes:
