ABSTRACT Rape, a pervasive crime with profound psychological and societal repercussions, demands a multidimensional analysis integrating legal, psychological, and socio-cultural perspectives. This paper examines India’s legislative evolution in combating sexual violence, from landmark judicial interventions like Vishakha v. State of Rajasthan (1997) to post-Nirbhaya reforms, while critiquing systemic failures—low conviction rates (27%, NCRB 2022); victim-blaming; and institutional apathy. Debunking myths surrounding offenders, victims, and consent, it highlights rape as an act of power, not passion, exacerbated by patriarchal norms and weak enforcement. Case studies (Nirbhaya, Kathua, and the Delhi school assault) reveal gaps in justice delivery and societal complicity. The study proposes a holistic strategy: judicial reforms (fast-track courts and marital rape criminalisation), gender-sensitive education, community-based prevention, and survivor-centric support. Recommendations emphasise dismantling rape culture through legal accountability, behavioural change, and institutional safeguards to foster a safer, equitable society. Abstract The Aligarh Law Journal (1964–2024) has been a seminal chronicle of India’s legal education, uniquely blending postcolonial constitutionalism, contemporary socio-legal debates, and family law. Over six decades, it has served as an academic beacon, addressing themes ranging from criminal justice to environmental law and human rights, while preserving the legacy of pioneers like Justice Syed Mahmood. The journal has shaped legal discourse through doctrinal analysis, interdisciplinary engagement, and critical book reviews, reflecting Aligarh’s intellectual tradition and India’s pluralistic legal landscape. Despite intellectual gaps, its emphasis on minority perspectives and institutional reforms underscores its enduring relevance. As legal academia navigates digital transformation and polarised debates, the journal’s archives remain a vital resource for scholars, offering insights into the interplay of tradition, rights, and governance in a changing India. 1. ?Abstract A nation or a society cannot afford to craft an educational system devoid of teacher education as its integral component. NCTE defines ‘teacher education as a programme of education, research and training of an individual to teach from the pre-primary to higher education level’. It refers to the ‘organisation and development of proficiency and competence’ of a prospective teacher to embrace the challenges of teaching and learning therein. Teacher education is at the buffer of the entire education system, where it capitalises the knowledge base from the disciplines like philosophy, sociology, psychology, etc. to develop a meaningful curriculum corresponding to the needs of the society and sensitive to field applications. NEP 2020 agrees that teacher education creates a pool of school teachers well versed in the dispositions and values of India coupled with the latest advances in education. Basically, the history of teacher education in India starts with the British period, post 1700 AD, when education got a facelift from education of spiritual environment to material world. The personality development got its material curriculum as a quality education. Neither the parameters of quality fixed nor objectives were distinctly homogenised. The prime stumbling block in this regard was the heterogeneous nature of Indian society. Despite having a lengthy constitution and independent judiciary, Indian political morals are very fluid. Historical and religious sentiments deviate the policy planners toward a reverse commitment. Societal transformations are scripted to impact on educational system and institutions, which has a direct bearing on the development of teachers and the teaching-learning environment.
