The department of Electrical Engineering was established in 1935 with an intake of 20 students, and the first graduate program started in 1940. A new phase of significant developments in the department started during the third five-year plan. Currently, the department is offering undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctorate programs in various specialized disciplines of electrical engineering. Presently the total intake of the B.Tech. program is 60, and the M. Tech program is 54. The department recently started a new M.Tech. program in "Solar and Renewable Energy," with an intake of 10 students. The department now runs one B.Tech. and four M.Tech. Programs. The thrust areas of the department are Power Systems, Power Electronics, Control, and High Voltage Engineering.

The faculty members have published a significant number of research articles in reputed journals and have also published several textbooks/edited books with reputed international publishers. Many research projects sponsored by A.I.C.T.E, U.G.C., D.S.T., and C.S.T. (U.P.) have been successfully completed. The first PhD in the Faculty of Engineering & Technology, Aligarh Muslim University, was produced by this department in 1977. Since then, many students have completed their PhD degrees in the department. Further, the department's faculty members have published more than 1000 research papers. The department organized one IEEE international conference in 2019. Many Workshops/Seminars/Training programs have been successfully organized in the last five years. Faculty members have chaired technical sessions of different national and international meets and have been regular members of various technical committees.

The department of Electrical Engineering has sanctioned strength of 27 faculty members, and most faculty members hold doctorates from reputed national and international institutes. Faculty members have specialization in diverse fields of Electrical Engineering such as Power systems, Electrical Machines, Electrical Drives, High Voltage Engineering, Control systems, Instrumentation, Biomedical Engineering, Hybrid Electric Vehicles, and Renewable sources of Energy.

I - B. TECH. (ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING) PROGRAM


PROGRAM OUTCOMES (POs):


PO1. Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.

PO2. Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.     

PO3. Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.

PO4. Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.

PO5. Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.

PO6. The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.

PO7. Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.

PO8. Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.

PO9. Individual and team work: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.

PO10. Communication: Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions. 

PO11. Project management and finance: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the engineering and management principles and apply these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments.

PO12. Lifelong learning: Recognize the need for, and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and life-long learning in the broadest context of technological change. 


PROGRAM SPECIFIC OUTCOMES (PSOs):


PSO1: Graduates will be able to analyze the concepts of generation, transmission, distribution, and measurement of electrical power and its conversion and control.

PSO2: Graduates will be able to design and develop systems in the emerging electrical and allied disciplines to meet out the industry challenges.


PROGRAM EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES (PEOs):


PEO 1: Students will have a successful technical and professional careers, including supportive and leadership roles on multidisciplinary teams.

PEO 2: Students will be able to acquire, use and develop skills as required for effective professional practices.

PEO 3: Students will be able to attain holistic education that is an essential prerequisite for being a responsible member of society.

PEO 4: Students will be engaged in life-long learning, to remain abreast in their profession and be leaders in our technologically vibrant society.

M. Tech. Program 

PO1: An ability to independently carry out research /investigation and development work to solve practical problems

PO2: An ability to write and present a substantial technical report/document

PO3: Students should be able to demonstrate a degree of mastery over the area as per the specialization of the program. The mastery should be at a level higher than the requirements in the appropriate bachelor program

PO4: Students will be able to contribute in newly emerging areas through collaborative and multidisciplinary research.
