28-FEB 2020 EXTENSION LECTURE DELIVERED BY PROF POONAM ARORA,ENGLISH AND MEDIA STUDIES,HAMLIN UNIVERSITY, U.S

Department of Education, Aligarh Muslim University,Aligarh organized Extension Lecture on Multiple Intelligences on 28^th of Febraury,2020. Prof. Poonam Arora, English and Media Studies ,Hamlin University, U.S delivered the lecture on the Topic Multiple Intelligences in Primary and Secondary Education in India: Theory, Practice and Recommendations. Prof. Nasrin Chairperson, Department of Education gave the welcome address and also threw light on the topic of the lecture. The Chief Guest Prof. Mohammad Jahangir, Chairperson, Department of Linguistics gave brief introduction of the speaker of the day to the audience. Prof. Arora discussed about the importance of various kinds of multiple Intelligences required for the wellbeing of individuals. Prof. Arora said that “We had made some of the important Intelligences such as Interpersonal Intelligence, bodily Kinesthetic Intelligence, Existential Intelligence weak without proper use. There also exists a close relationship between Mathematical and Musical Intelligence”.

Prof Arora emphasized that efforts are to be made to inculcate different kinds of intelligences from the school stage itself. Teachers require to put efforts for bringing collaborativeness in the class rooms instead of competitiveness. There is also a need to inculcate moral values among the students. Prof Arora concluded the lecture with the remark that the education system should focus on empowerment and therefore the role of teachers need a change.

EXTENSION LECTURE DELIVERED BY EMINENT SPEAKERS

12-JAN-2019: Prof. R Baskar, GJST University, Hisar delivered an extension lecture on 'Natural Hazards: an Overview and Role of Teachers'. He discussed about training of teachers with special techniques and guidelines for providing sustainable disaster management at the Department of Education, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).

Speaking on the importance of natural disaster reduction, Prof Baskar focused on the recommendations of United Nations (UN). "UN supports and engages in activities in advance to forecast disasters eventually decreasing the vulnerability of populations to the effects of disaster and by increasing the capacity of individuals, communities and authorities to deal with the adverse effects," he said.

Prof Bhaskar said that we can prevent a disaster if we understand nature and it is very important to educate and sensitize people on disaster management. He also discussed the history of disaster management in India from the High Powered Committee set up in 1999 to the passing of Disaster Management Act in 2005.

Prof. Nasrin, Chairperson, Department of Education delivered the welcome address, while Prof Gunjan Dubey proposed vote of thanks. Prof. Nabi Ahmad also spoke on the occasion.

15-JAN-2019: Prof. P K Sahoo, Head, Department of Education, University of Allahabad delivered lecture on 'Curriculum Reforms in the present scenario of Teacher Education' at the Department of Education, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). Prof Sahoo said that curriculum should be designed through interaction with all the stake holders in the society. He stressed the importance of simulated teaching and student feedback while discussing about the necessity of professional competence in teaching profession.

Prof Nasrin, Chairperson, Department of Education delivered the welcome address and Prof Nabi Ahmad proposed the vote of thanks.

19-FEB-2019: Prof. Nisar A Khan (Department of Economics), (AMU) delivered lecture on the concept of 'Circular Economy' and gave interesting examples to make clear how Indians 'rescue' materials/ goods at their homes. His talk resolved around vital areas about productivity and sustainability like solid waste management, ground-water depletion, water-harvesting and economic growth and development. He stressed on shifting from social development to sustainable development.

Prof Nasrin, Chairperson, Department of Education, gave the welcome address and acknowledged the acceptance of Prof Nisar to deliver the lecture. The session was encouraging for students and faculty members of the department.

Prof Gunjan Dubey extended vote of thanks by highlighting the major ideas shared by the resource person.

13-NOV-2019: Dr Syeda Sayidain Hameed delivered extension lecture on 'Maulana Abul Kalam Azad: His Philosophy and Contribution to Education' at the Department of Education, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). ; Dr Syeda delineate Maulana Azad's extensive influence and contribution to higher education in India.

"As a Muslim divine, steeped in the erudition of his faith, and as a committed nationalist Maulana Azad symbolised the all-inclusive aspirations of the nationalist movement," she said adding that Maulana Azad asked Muslims to join Freedom Movement with Indians of all religious faiths.

Dr Syeda said that Maulana Azad considered the first Chapter of the Holy Quran, 'Surah Al Fatiha' to be quintessence of Islamic teaching and on the basis of the understanding of Sirat-ul-Mustaqeem (the straight path) mentioned in the Quranic Chapter, Maulana Azad said, Muslims are obliged to follow the straight path and fight for freedom shoulder to shoulder with their Hindu brothers. She pointed out that Maulana Azad invited Indian Muslims to join the mainstream of life through the trajectory of religion. "He started the Urdu paper, Al Hilal (the Crescent) in 1912 and this opened a new chapter in Urdu journalism as it presented politics in an artistic manner," emphasised Dr Syeda.

She remarked: "In his young age, Maulana Azad was a boy of extraordinary intellect brought up under a strict disciplinarian family and tutored at his home in Calcutta by carefully selected teachers."

17 March, 2016: Dr. Karen E. Irving, Associate Professor in the Department of Teaching and Learning at The Ohio State University delivered invited talk in the Department of Education, Aligarh Muslim University. She currently serves as Associate Director for education on the ï¿½??The STEM-faculty project: Training the next generation of STEM faculty at higher education institutions in Indiaï¿½??. Prof. Mohammad Parvez, Chairman, Department of Education, welcomed and briefed the guest speaker about the establishment and educational development of Aligarh Muslim University and Department of Education. Dr. Irving began her talk with the developments in the ongoing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) project which has received Obama- Singh 21st Century Knowledge Initiative award and mentioned the importance of STEM education in her presentation in the smart classroom of the department. She emphasized need for collaboration in research and efforts to build up technology assisted instruction. Dr. Irving elaborated various online open resources available for access to students and researchers. Finally in the Q & A session with the students, researchers and faculty, Dr. Irving informed of the several fellowships, scholarships, and funded grants that can be availed to study abroad. The interactive session ended with vote of thanks by Prof. Nabi Ahmad, Senior Professor. Ms. Shazia Mansoori, Assistant Professor, Department of Education, hosted the talk session. Prof. Qayyoom Hussain, Department of Biochemistry, Aligarh Muslim University, was also present.
