Program Educational Objectives (PEO's) :

By the end of the course, the student should have acquired knowledge (cognitive domain), professionalism (affective domain) and skills (psychomotor domain) as given below:

• • Describe structure, functions and development of human skin.
  • Describe ultrastructural aspects of epidermis, epidermal appendages, dermoepidermal junction, dermis, and sub-cutis.
  • Demonstrate the knowledge of common laboratory stains and procedures used in the histopathologic diagnosis of skin diseases
  • Describe the basics of cutaneous bacteriology, mycology, virology, parasitology and host resistance.
  • Describe papulosqamous and vesiculobullous disorders.
  • Describe disorders of epidermal appendages and related disorders.
  • Describe skin lesions in nutritional, and metabolic disorders.
  • Describe principles of topical and systemic therapy.
  • Describe drug reaction, its diagnosis and management.
  • Describe anatomy of male and female genitalia, epidemiological transmission, clinical aspects and management of STDs and HIV.
  • Describe clinical features, treatment and reactions in leprosy.
  • Describe etiology, pathophysiology, principles of diagnosis and management of common problems in dermatology including emergencies in adults and children.
  • Counsel a patient of STI with empathy, non-judgemental attitude and maintain confidentiality
  • Maintain a professional rapport with the patients, their attendants, colleagues, seniors and staff.
  • Demonstrate empathy to a patient of leprosy.
  • Perform basic laboratory procedures such as Gram stain, Giemsa stain, ZN stain, KOH examination etc.
  • Perform under supervision collection of samples from patients for skin biopsy, fungal scraping, pus for staining, slit skin smear etc.
  • Perform basic clinical and dermatological examination of patients

Program Outcomes (PO's) :

At the end of the programme, the student must be able to:

• Possess the knowledge of normal and abnormal skin structure, function and development from molecular, cellular, biologic, clinical and social perspective
• Diagnose common skin conditions, sexually transmitted infections and leprosy.
• Identify and manage emergencies related to skin, sexually transmitted infections and leprosy.
• Establish professional relationship with patients and their families and maintain patient confidentiality.
• Acquire knowledge about health programmes for STIs and leprosy and aid in their implementation.
• Apply the knowledge of dermatology in research and patient care.
