ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT


The Department of Commerce has made colossal contribution in academia, as well as in the corporate sector, since its establishment in 1946. Furthermore, imparting quality education both at undergraduate and post-graduate levels, the Department is also providing research guidance to a large number of Indian and foreign research scholars. At present more than 150 scholars are enrolled in Ph.D. program in our Department. The presence of foreign students in different programs enhances the cultural diversity and makes it a hub of cultural exchange among the students.

Due to its rich intellectual capital, the Department has carved a niche for itself at the global level. Our alumni are holding esteemed positions not only in India but abroad as well, attaining new heights gloriously. Accomplished faculty consistently contributes to the well-being of students by imparting excellent education in various contemporary courses. Besides publishing in world-class journals and organizing international-workshops, seminars and conferences, the faculty members are also upskilling and engaging in outcome-based approaches to pedagogy. For creating student centric teaching-learning environment, the Department has converted all the classrooms into smart/IT enabled classrooms.

In addition to the existing Doctoral Program, Bachelor of Commerce (Hons), Master of Commerce (M. Com), and two other specialized masters in finance (MBA-FM) and tourism (MTTM), the Department added two more master's degree-professional programs to the curriculum, Master of Human Resource Management (MHRM) and Master of Insurance & Risk Management (MIRM) with effect from 2018. Full placements exhibit how well these two programs are being accepted by the corporate sector.

Academic diversity is one of the most conspicuous features of our Department. On top of traditional commerce, it also offers post graduate courses in finance, human resource, insurance and tourism. The department of commerce also has three faculty members from allied disciplines – Commercial Law, Business Mathematics and Information &Technology. Besides extant faculties, the Department also appoints distinguished fellows from corporate and academia as visiting faculties.

Overall the Department of Commerce has completed a semi-sesquicentennial duration for nurturing talent and shall continue to work with renewed zeal and commitment.Presently the Department is offering the following academic programmes:
