The Aligarh Muslim University Literary Festival 2026, the flagship event of the University Debating and Literary Club, Cultural Education Centre, was organised from 5th April to 7th April 2026. The three-day festival featured a wide range of workshops, panel discussions, one-on-one sessions, and competitions, encouraging a vibrant culture of dialogue, creativity, and critical engagement among participants.

On 7th April 2026, the University Debating and Literary Club organised the Valedictory Ceremony to formally conclude the festival. The programme commenced with the Qirat by Mr. Asshad Akhtar.

A comprehensive report of the AMU Literary Festival 2026 was then presented by the Secretary, Mr. Syed Faheem Ahmad, and the Joint Secretary, Ms. Amna Asim, outlining the key events and achievements of the three days.

The ceremony proceeded with the address of the Coordinator of the Cultural Education Centre, Prof. Mohammad Rizwan Khan. In addition to his remarks, he conducted an interactive feedback session, inviting students to share their experiences and suggestions, thereby encouraging constructive dialogue on further improving the festival.

This was followed by the felicitation of the Chief Guest, Mr. Kuldeep Meena, IAS, Vice Chairman of the Aligarh Development Authority, and the Guest of Honour, Er. Nawab Saquib Ibrahim, Founder-Director of Image Classes, Aligarh.

One of the highlights of the ceremony was the release of the official newsletter of the festival, The Lit Letter, by the dignitaries. The newsletter was edited by Ms. Aliya Akbar, Ms. Zainab Faiza Islam, and Ms Rahat Ul Aien, and reflected the spirit and intellectual commitment of the festival.

The prize distribution ceremony was then held to honour the winners of the various competitions organised during the festival. Participants were recognised for their excellence, creativity, and thoughtful engagement across various categories.

In the Conventional Debate, Arpit Chauhan secured the first position, followed by Haniya Khan in second place and Asjad Ahmad in third. The Performance Poetry competition saw Ankit Kumar, Mohd Ammar, and Irtiqa Sameer securing the first, second, and third positions respectively. In the Extempore competition, Asjad Ahmad stood first, followed by Kaaminah Beigh and Dania Hassan. The Parliamentary Debate was won by the team of Sadaf Iqubal, Tanzila Rahman, and Muhammad Haashir, while the team comprising Arshi, Asjad Ahmad, and Abdul Malik secured the second position. In the Quiz competition, Mohd Bilal Rais and Mohd Hassan Ullah Khan secured the first position, followed by Darafshan Sultana and Naaila Siddiqi in second place, and Abaan Siddiqui and Aarish Shah Mohsin in third. The Baitbaazi competition was won by Team Faiz, comprising Rufaa Fatima, Udba Fatima, and Fatima, while Team Momin, comprising Mohammad Urooz Chishti, Abu Umair, and Muhammad Suhail, secured the second position.

In the Oxford Debate, the team of Mohd Ateeb, Abdullah, and Taranjeet emerged as winners, with the team of Maryam Shakeel, Md Aryan Tarique, and Smriti Raman Singh securing the second position. In the Journalistic Writing competition, Hejab Ayesha secured the first position, followed by Ushna Meraj and Rohmatullah Siddikhan. The Creative Writing competition saw Kaaminah Beigh, Abdul Malik, and Iqbal Ullah Khan securing the first, second, and third positions respectively. In the Book Review competition, Rozy Begum secured the first position, followed by Arooba Irshad and Warisha Rafi.

Furthermore, The Chief Guest, Mr. Kuldeep Meena, addressed the gathering and shared his impressions of the university. He remarked upon the vibrant atmosphere of the campus during the festival, noting the presence of banners and standees that reflected the scale and enthusiasm of the event. Drawing from his experience across multiple institutions, he observed that Aligarh Muslim University offers commendable infrastructure for students. He further spoke about the importance of perseverance, hard work, and remaining receptive to opportunities in one’s academic and professional journey.

The address by the Guest of Honour, Er Nawab Saqib Ibrahim, followed, adding further insight and encouragement for the students.

The ceremony also featured addresses by the mentors of the University Debating and Literary Club, including Prof. Mohammad Akram and Dr. Ghufran Ahmed, who reflected on the significance of such platforms in nurturing intellectual growth. The President of the Club, Dr. Mansoor Alam Siddiqui, then addressed the audience, appreciating the collective efforts that contributed to the success of the festival.

The welcome address was delivered by Ms. Sayed Aqsa. The vote of thanks was delivered by Mr. Md. Arib Khan and the programme was conducted by Ms. Zunaira Habib Alvi and Ms. Maryam Khan.

The ceremony concluded with a Students’ Mushaira, followed by the rendition of the AMU Tarana and the National Anthem, marking a fitting close to the Annual Literary Festival 2026

Aligarh, February 9, 2026:

The Cultural Education Centre (CEC), Aligarh Muslim University, in

collaboration with the University Hobbies Workshop (UHW), organized an academic lecture titled

“Theories of the Universe from the Quranic Perspective” at the Kennedy Auditorium. The lecture,

which began at 2:00 pm, witnessed the presence of a large number of faculty members, research

scholars, and students from various disciplines.

The program commenced on a reverential note with the recitation of the Holy Qur’an, followed by

a soulful Naat-e-Rasooll creating an atmosphere of reflection and scholarly engagement. The

dignitaries including Professor Mohammed Naved Khan, Coordinator, Cultural Education Centre;

Dr. Mohammad Nazim, President, University Hobbies Workshop; and the Guest Speaker

Professor Zafar Ahsan, former Chairman, Department of Mathematics, AMU, were formally

invited to the dais.

The proceedings of the event were conducted by Ms. Zobia Zahid, Secretary, University Hobbies

Workshop, who anchored the program. She formally introduced the theme of the lecture and

presented a detailed introduction of the Guest Speaker, highlighting Professor Zafar Ahsan’s

distinguished academic career, scholarly contributions, and his work at the intersection of

science, cosmology, and Qur’anic studies.

Addressing the gathering, Professor Mohammed Naved Khan emphasized the importance of

interdisciplinary academic initiatives that encourage meaningful dialogue between science and

faith. Dr. Mohammad Nazim , in his address, highlighted the role of the University Hobbies

Workshop in nurturing intellectual curiosity and organizing programs that foster reflective

learning within the university community.

The Guest Speaker, Professor Zafar Ahsan, delivered an enlightening lecture in which he

discussed modern cosmological theories related to the origin, expansion, and eventual fate of the

universe, while drawing thoughtful parallels with Qur’anic verses. He elaborated on the scientific

understanding that the universe has a definite beginning, is continuously expanding, is governed

by fundamental particles and laws, and will ultimately reach an end. His presentation seamlessly

integrated scientific reasoning with Quranic reflection, leaving the audience deeply engaged.

The lecture was followed by an interactive Question and Answer session, during which

participants actively interacted with the speaker and sought clarifications on various scientific

and philosophical aspects of the topic.

As a mark of respect and appreciation, a memento was presented to Professor Zafar Ahsan by

Dr.Mohammad Nazim , Mr. Abdul Moeed and Mr. Umair Khan .The program concluded with

Vote of Thanks proposed by Ms. Zobia Zahid, Secretary, University Hobbies Workshop, who

expressed gratitude to the Guest Speaker, the Cultural Education Centre, the organising team,

and the audience for their participation and support.

Overall, the lecture proved to be intellectually stimulating and academically enriching, offering

the audience a deeper understanding of the universe through a harmonious blend of scientific

inquiry and Qur’anic perspective.

UDLC Organises Pounce 2.0, Its Flagship Quiz Event at Kennedy Auditorium.

The University Debating and Literary Club (UDLC), Aligarh Muslim University, organised Pounce 2.0, its flagship quiz competition, on 10th February 2026 at the Kennedy Auditorium, Cultural Education Centre. The event witnessed active participation from students across various departments and aimed to promote a culture of quizzing and intellectual engagement within the university community.

The event began with an introductory address by Mr. Syed Faheem Ahmad, Secretary, UDLC, who presented an overview of the Quiz Forum of the University Debating and Literary

Club. He highlighted the notable achievements of its former members and quiz masters, encouraging the audience to actively participate in such quiz initiatives.

This was followed by a segment by Mr. Qazi Sheeraz Arif, who spoke on the history and importance of quizzes. He discussed the development and evolution of quizzing as a competitive and educational practice, underlining its role in encouraging curiosity, analytical reasoning, and interdisciplinary awareness among students.

Mr. Khalid Ahmad, former In-Charge, Quiz Forum, UDLC, conducted a mock quiz session to familiarise the participants with the quiz format and rules. The interactive session served as a preparatory exercise for the participants and generated keen interest among the audience.

Following the mock session, the preliminary round of Pounce 2.0 commenced, during which participants were presented with a series of questions designed to assess their knowledge across a wide range of subjects, culminating in the selection of six teams that qualified for the subsequent stages of the event.

This was followed by the final round of the quiz, Pounce and Bounce, where the six qualified teams competed by answering questions from different categories. The various categories in this segment were conducted by members of the Quiz Forum, UDLC, Mr. Mohammad Noman Khan, Mr. Khalid Ahmad, Ms. Minza Khan, Ms. Maisha Khushnood, Ms. Insa Alam, Ms. Bushra Rasheed, Mr. Umar Abdullah, and Mr. Abdaal Ahmad Siddiqui.

The final round concluded with the declaration of the winners, felicitated by Ms. Amna Asim Khan, Joint-Secretary, UDLC. The first prize was awarded to Team E, while the second prize was backed by Team C, and Team A secured the third prize.

The event concluded successfully, with a vote of thanks by Mr. Sharf Ullah Khan, member, UDLC.

The University Fusion Music Club (CEC) successfully organized its Orientation Program titled Resonance 2026

on 12th February, 4:00 PM onwards at Wisdom Hall, C.E.C. Complex Aligarh Muslim University. The event

was organized and efficiently managed by the Secretary of the University Fusion Music Club, Amber Tariq,

marking a vibrant beginning to the new session.

The program commenced with a warm and gracious welcome speech delivered by Ms. Roozal Fatima, an old

member of the club, who extended heartfelt greetings to the dignitaries, newly inducted members, and existing

members present.

This was followed by insightful addresses from the esteemed President of the University Fusion Music Club, Dr.

Sayed Khurram Nisar and the Coordinator of CEC, Prof. Mohammed Naved Khan. Their words emphasized

discipline, dedication, creativity, and the importance of upholding the cultural and artistic standards of the

Cultural Education Centre (CEC).

Subsequently, a detailed presentation was delivered by senior member Abeer Tariq, who elaborated on the true

essence of fusion music — its philosophy, goals, legacy, and its alignment with CEC disciplines. The

presentation provided clarity to the newly inducted members about what fusion represents and what they

should expect from the club in terms of workshops, performances, collaborations, and stage shows throughout

the academic session.

The gathering was further addressed by the former Secretaries of the club, who shared their experiences and

insights, reflecting upon the journey and growth of the University Fusion Music Club over the years.

Thereafter, the current Secretary for the session, Amber Tariq, addressed the members, expressing aspirations,

vision, and commitment toward nurturing emerging talent and strengthening the club’s legacy.

The orientation witnessed the enthusiastic participation of around 50 members, including newly inducted artists

and existing members. It also provided an opportunity to interact with promising young talents who had

registered for the club, showcasing the vibrant future of UFMC.

The formal proceedings concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks, acknowledging the presence and support of

the President, Coordinator, former secretary, senior members, and all attendees who contributed to making the

event successful.

Following the orientation session at Wisdom Hall, the newly inducted members were escorted to the club

premises, where they were introduced to the instruments and equipment available. This interactive segment

allowed them to familiarize themselves with the creative space and marked the beginning of their journey with

the University Fusion Music Club.

Overall, Resonance 2026 was a dynamic, well-structured, and inspiring event that reinforced the spirit of unity,

creativity, and excellence within the University Fusion Music Club (CEC). The club extends its sincere gratitude

to everyone who supported and attended the orientation program, making it a memorable success.

Orientation Meet for the Academic Session 2025–26 Organised by the University Debating and Literary Club

On 16th February 2026, the University Debating and Literary Club, Aligarh Muslim University, organised an Orientation Meet for the session 2025–26 at Kennedy Auditorium, Cultural Education Centre.

The programme commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran by Mr.
Ashhad Akhtar. The proceedings formally began with the welcome address delivered by Prof. Nazia Hasan, President, UDLC. She extended a warm welcome to the members and shared her valuable insights, highlighting the importance of students’ active involvement in extracurricular activities. She further elaborated on the activities of the club and what it offers, encouraging students to contribute towards enriching its legacy and to confidently become a part of it.

This was followed by the Keynote Address by Prof. Naved Khan, Coordinator, Cultural Education Centre, AMU. He encouraged the students to actively participate in forthcoming events and to derive meaningful outcomes from their interactions within the club. He also addressed the academic pressures faced by students and extended the support of the administration, along with his personal assistance, to help them navigate such challenges.

As the event progressed, the members were addressed by Mr. Md. Sabeeh Ahmad, Former Secretary (2021–22), UDLC, through online mode. He shared his experiences and reflected upon the club’s rich legacy and history. He spoke about how his time in the University Debating and Literary Club helped shape him into the person he is today. He further stated that, although not always directly, the activities and experiences within the club significantly contributed to his academic excellence as well as his extracurricular achievements.

In the subsequent segment of the programme, Ms.
Aafia Rizvi, Former Secretary (2023–24), UDLC, connected with the students virtually, where she shared her journey in the club. Being a
debater herself, she emphasised the importance of debating and expressed that it should continue in the years to come with the same spirit and dedication.

The session continued with a presentation by Mr.
Syed Faheem Ahmad, Secretary, UDLC, and Ms.
Amna Asim, Joint Secretary, UDLC. They presented an overview of the University Debating and Literary Club. The address highlighted the club’s illustrious history and articulated its strategic vision for the future. They introduced the students to the various forums and their respective In-Charges for the session 2025–26.

They enumerated the list of flagship events conducted by the University Debating and Literary Club, including the Model United Nations, the National Debate Competition, and the AMU Literary Festival.

The session concluded with a formal Vote of Thanks delivered by Mr.
Nomaan Khan, Member, UDLC.

Report on Orientation Programme

The Hindustani Music Club (UHMC) successfully organized its Orientation Programme on 16th

February 2026 for the freshers and interested students. The event aimed to introduce students to

the objectives, activities, and future plans of the club.

The programme was graced by the presence of Coordinator Mr. Mohammad Naved Khan,

President UHMC Mr. Danish Mahmood, Ahmed Sir, and other respected alumni members. Their

presence added great value and encouragement to the event.

The session began with a warm welcome to the guests and participants. The objectives of the club

were explained, highlighting how students can learn classical music, improve their vocal skills, and

participate in various cultural events. The future plans and upcoming activities of the club were also

shared with the audience.

The interaction session with juniors was engaging and informative. Students showed great

enthusiasm and interest in becoming active members of the club. The alumni also shared their

experiences and motivated the students to pursue music with dedication and passion.

Overall, the programme was conducted smoothly and successfully. The event received a positive

Panel Discussion Commemorating Mirza Ghalib Organised by the

University Debating and Literary Club

On February 16th, 2026, The University Debating and Literary Club (UDLC) organised a panel discussion titled “Hoga Koi Aisa Bhi Ki Ghalib Ko Na Jaane”, to commemorate the death anniversary of the renowned Urdu poet, Mirza Asad Ullah Khan ‘Ghalib’, at the Kennedy Auditorium, Cultural Education Centre, Aligarh Muslim University.

The panel consisted of Prof. (Emeritus) Abdul Haq, Professor Emeritus, Department of Urdu, University of Delhi; Prof. Mohamed Quamrul Hooda Faridi, Chairman, Department of Urdu, Aligarh Muslim University; and Prof. Syed Sirajuddin Ajmali, Department of Urdu, Aligarh Muslim University.        

The session was moderated by Dr. Javed Ashraf, Department of Urdu, Aligarh Muslim University.

The programme commenced with a welcome address by Mr. Adnan Rafiq, senior member of the University Debating and Literary Club.

The discussion brought together scholars to reflect not only on Ghalib’s poetic genius, but also on the depth of thought embedded in his language and his continued relevance in contemporary literary discourse. Prof. Syed Sirajuddin Ajmali reflected on Mirza Ghalib’s greatest strength, identifying his interrogative style (istefaham) as a defining feature through which he transformed seemingly simple questions into profound philosophical reflections. He emphasised that Ghalib’s layered imagery and classical metaphors require cultural and linguistic understanding, and that no serious engagement with Urdu literature is complete without a deep study of Ghalib. Prof. Mohamed Quamrul Hooda Faridi compared Mirza Ghalib with Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, noting their shared realist outlook during a period of colonial change. He argued that Ghalib adapted to his times by expressing complex philosophical ideas in simple language, while Sir Syed stressed intellectual clarity and authenticity, thereby demonstrating that true literary greatness emerges when ideas become part of one’s intellectual core rather than serving as mere ornamentation.

Prof. (Emeritus) Abdul Haq, joining the session online, highlighted the philosophical and existential depth of Mirza Ghalib’s poetry, observing that it grapples with complex metaphysical and theological questions beneath seemingly simple language. He emphasised Ghalib’s unmatched interrogative style and urged renewed scholarly engagement with his works.

As the conversations came to a close, the guests were felicitated with tokens of appreciation in the form of mementoes presented by Prof. Nazia Hasan, President, UDLC, Mr. Syed Faheem Ahmad, Secretary, UDLC, Ms. Amna Asim, Joint Secretary, UDLC, Mr. Azhar Nawaz and Ms. Areeba Dilshad, former members, UDLC,  as a gesture of gratitude in recognition of their valuable presence to the programme.

Aligarh, February 17:The Eco Club of Aligarh Muslim University organized an insightful seminar titled “Carbon Conclave: Seminar on Carbon Emissions and Climate Change” at Wisdom Hall, Cultural Education Centre. The programme aimed to create awareness among students from various academic disciplines about climate change, environmental degradation, and sustainable development.

The seminar commenced with the recitation of verses from Quran, setting a reflective and responsible atmosphere for the proceedings.

Earlier, Prof. Anwar Shahzad delivered the introductory address, highlighting deforestation, rapid urbanization, and industrialization as major contributors to climate change. He explained the increasing concentration of carbon dioxide (CO₂) in the atmosphere and its impact on ecological balance, emphasizing plantation drives and sustainable development practices as essential steps towards a greener future.

In her expert address, Dr. Faiza Abbasi stated that although participants belonged to different academic backgrounds, their common objective was environmental protection. She discussed the climate crisis, carbon footprint, greenhouse effect, consumerism, and excessive use of natural resources. She also explained concepts such as Net Zero adaptation and Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS). Referring to Islamic teachings and the sayings of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), she emphasized that planting trees is a virtuous and socially responsible act, urging students to take individual initiatives along with policy-level efforts

Providing a scientific perspective, Prof. Orus Ilyas explained climate change in terms of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide (CO₂), methane (CH₄), and nitrous oxide. She identified coal-based power plants, vehicles, industries, agriculture, and deforestation as major sources of emissions. She highlighted visible impacts such as glacier melting, sea-level rise, floods, droughts, and the rising Air Quality Index (AQI) in metropolitan cities, along with economic consequences including crop loss and health-related issues. She also discussed renewable energy, electric vehicles, solar power, carbon credits, climate justice, and the need for sustainable consumption and zero-waste lifestyles.

The seminar witnessed active participation from students across departments. An interactive session allowed students to raise questions related to carbon footprint, renewable energy, and sustainable development, making the programme engaging and thought-provoking.

The event was organized by University Eco Club, with Abdur Rahman, Secretary, University Eco Club, playing an active role in the planning and execution of the seminar.

The Carbon Conclave concluded with a collective resolve to promote environmental responsibility and sustainable development. The seminar successfully combined scientific understanding with ethical and social awareness, motivating students to contribute towards a cleaner and more sustainable society.

The University Film Club, Cultural Education Centre, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), under the leadership of Secretary Syed Ayan Iqbal and President Dr. Fazila Shahnawaz, successfully organized a Mental Health Awareness Program aimed at promoting psychological well-being and creating awareness among students regarding mental health issues.

The event was thoughtfully structured and included a panel discussion, interactive session with students, stress-relief activities, screening of a short film produced by club members, and a feature film screening.

The program commenced with a panel discussion featuring distinguished guest speakers. The keynote speaker, Dr. Nasheed Imtiaz, Department of Psychology, addressed the gathering on the importance of mental health awareness, stress management, and coping mechanisms for students. Her session was highly engaging and was followed by an open interaction, where students actively participated by sharing concerns and seeking guidance.

Adding further value to the program, Dr. Heena Parveen and Ms. Eisha Rahman, Assistant Coordinators of the Student Counselling Centre, AMU Aligarh, conducted a practical stress-relief session. They guided students through techniques to manage academic pressure and maintain emotional balance, which was appreciated by the attendees.

The event also featured Adv. Zeeshan Khan, Advocate, Supreme Court of India, who provided a unique perspective by linking mental health with legal awareness. He elaborated on legal rights related to mental health and emphasized the importance of recognizing psychological well-being as a fundamental aspect of human dignity and justice.

A special highlight of the program was the screening of a short film created by members of the University Film Club, reflecting real-life mental health challenges faced by students. The film was well received and sparked meaningful discussions among participants.

As a token of gratitude, all esteemed guest speakers were felicitated with mementos in recognition of their valuable contributions.

The program concluded with the screening of the animated feature film Inside Out, which beautifully portrays emotional experiences and psychological growth, perfectly complementing the theme of the event.

The Mental Health Awareness Program proved to be a significant and impactful initiative. The enthusiastic participation of students and the insightful contributions of the guest speakers made the event a great success. The University Film Club remains committed to organizing such meaningful programs that contribute to student welfare and holistic development.

The Club for Short Evening Courses (CSEC), under the esteemed patronage of the Cultural Education Centre (CEC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), successfully organized a one-day LinkedIn workshop titled “Your Degree Isn’t Enough — Your Profile Matters: Turn Your LinkedIn into a Career Magnet” on February 11, 2026, at the Kennedy Auditorium, AMU. The event aimed to bridge the gap between academic qualifications and digital professional branding, drawing a large number of enthusiastic participants.

The program commenced with a soulful recitation from the Holy Qur’an by Mr. Afnan Khan. Prof. Mohammed Naved Khan, Coordinator, CEC, appreciated CSEC for organizing student-centric workshops on relevant themes. Dr. Ahmad Mujtaba Siddiqui, President, CSEC, emphasized complementing academic learning with professional skills and platforms such as LinkedIn. The workshop was graced by Prof. Nazia Hasan, President, UDLC, along with secretaries and presidents of other clubs.

The workshop featured Mr. Areeb Akhlaq, a seasoned HR professional with over eight years of experience in Talent Acquisition, HR Operations, Learning and Development, and Employee Engagement, as the resource person. Drawing from his journey, Mr. Akhlaq delivered an engaging session on leveraging LinkedIn as a strategic career-management tool. Mementos were presented to Mr. Akhlaq and to sponsors – Mr. Mohd. Subhan, Managing Director, Aligarh Coaching Centre; Scentique Perfume; and Star Investment and Development – for their valuable support.

During the session, Mr. Areeb Akhlaq explained what recruiters look for on LinkedIn, including relevant keywords, the 7-second profile impression rule, and the headline and “About” section framework. He also discussed showcasing projects, highlighting skills, and adding recommendations to strengthen profiles. The session concluded with an interactive Q&A segment, equipping participants with practical insights to enhance their LinkedIn profiles and professional presence.
