Report on the Department-wise User Awareness Program on Online Resources

of

Medical Library, JNMC, AMU


Introduction

The Faculty Library of Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), organized a series of department-wise user awareness programs to promote effective utilization of online resources and digital library services among faculty members, resident doctors, researchers, postgraduate students, and undergraduate students.

The program aimed to familiarize users with the available electronic resources, remote access facilities, research support tools, and methods for efficient literature searching in the medical and allied health sciences.

Objectives of the Program

  • To create awareness about subscribed online databases, e-journals, and e-books.

  • To train users in effective literature search techniques.

  • To promote the use of evidence-based medical resources.

  • To provide guidance on remote access and institutional login facilities.

  • To introduce citation management, writing assistant and plagiarism detection tools.

  • To encourage optimal utilization of Medical Library services and resources.

The awareness sessions were conducted department-wise in JN Medical College and Z. A. Dental College.  So far, the following departments participated in the program:

Major Online Resources Demonstrated

During the sessions, participants were introduced to the following online resources and services:

  • One Nation One Subscription (ONOS) Resources

  • ERMED Consortium Resources i.e. ClinicalKey, AccessMedicine, BMJ Best Practice, BMJ RTOP, BMJ Learning, Thieme’s MedOne Education

  • AMU E-Library App for Off-Campus Access

  • PubMed & PubMed Central

  • UpToDate

  • BMJ Case Reports

  • Open Access Research Support Tools i.e. ResearchRabbit

  • Google Scholar search techniques

  • Reference management tools such as Zotero and Mendeley

  • Plagiarism Detection & Writing Assistant Tools i.e. TurnItin, Grammarly, Quillbot

Participation and Response

Faculty members, postgraduate students, interns, and research scholars actively participated in the sessions. Participants appreciated the practical demonstrations and expressed increased confidence in accessing and utilizing electronic medical information resources for academic, clinical, and research purposes.

The program significantly enhanced awareness regarding authenticated medical information sources and promoted better use of digital library facilities.

Outcomes of the Program

  • Increased awareness and usage of online medical resources.

  • Improved literature searching skills among participants.

  • Better understanding of evidence-based information retrieval.

  • Enhanced utilization of subscribed e-resources and library services.

  • Strengthened interaction between the Medical Library and academic departments.

Conclusion

The department-wise user awareness program proved to be highly beneficial in promoting the effective use of online resources available through the Medical Library, JNMC, AMU. Such programs contribute significantly to academic excellence, quality research, and evidence-based clinical practice.

The Medical Library may continue organizing similar orientation and training programs regularly to keep users updated about newly subscribed resources and emerging digital research tools.
