  1. The Physiology of Alam (Pain) and Its Non- Pharmacological Regimes and Modules in the Unani System of Medicine –An Overview

    Pain represents one of the oldest challenges in the history of Unani medicine. In the Unani system of Medicine term Waja or Alam described as sensation against Tabiyat (Physis) by Ibn Rushd in his book Kitabul Kulliyat. Alam (pain) is a state in which an individual experiences and reports severe discomfort or an uncomfortable sensation basically it is a protective mechanism having signals in our nervous system. Unani System of Medicine (USM) has an impressive record in treating alam/pain relating disorders through non-Pharmacological regimes and modules which works on the principle of modifying or modulating six essential factors of life (Asbaab-e-sitta zarooriya) for maintaining health and preventing from diseases.

    The management of Hypertension has been a challenge for the health care professionals for decades. It is high time for Unani scholars to make a universal strategic plan of a standardized management protocol for hypertension management to share the disease burden with other systems of medicine. But, before starting any intervention one must understand its etiopathogenesis in the light of Unani fundamentals. Keeping this objective in view this study was started and after following a set procedure, the updated Unani etiopathogenesis of Hypertension is presented.

    Dysmenorrhoea (usr-e-tams) is a usual gynaecological condition comprising of painful muscle spasms coming with menstruation, which in the absence of any fundamental irregularity or pathology, is known as primary dysmenorrhoea. Exercise may play a pivotal role in combating difficulties due to dysmenorrhoea. This article reviews the effects of exercise on dysmenorrhoea.
