Dr  Kusumika Sarkar is an Assistant Professor in the Department of English (Women’s College section) at Aligarh Muslim University, where she has been teaching for over ten years. She completed her PhD in English Literature (2016) on Redefining Race, Gender and Identity: A Study of Maya Angelou’s Autobiographical Works and qualified the  UGC  NET in 2012. She coordinated the GIAN thematic programme in Motherhood Studies with the University of Sweden, Stockholm, in 2022. Dr  Sarkar has supervised four doctoral theses- spanning Postcolonial studies, Trauma and Identity in Bangladeshi fiction, Indo‑Caribbean Indentured Labour narratives, and Arab Prison Narratives- and serves as an Academic Counsellor for IGNOU (2019-present).

She has authored twenty peer-reviewed research articles and book chapters (several on South Asian literature) and contributed an e‑content module to the national e‑PG Pathshala project on John Milton. She has presented papers at over 45 national and international seminars and workshops as an active conference participant. At the same time, her edited‑volume chapters appear in peer‑reviewed collections on translation, gender, and adaptation. She has chaired conference sessions and has been invited as a resource person in academic lectures and workshops. Her research, which focuses on Bengali Oral Narratives, Gender and Motherhood Studies, Race and Caste Identity, Afro‑American literature, and syncretic subcultures of the Murshidabad‑Nadia borderlands, has significantly contributed to these areas.

Dr Sarkar's commitment to empowering women from the margins is evident in her extensive academic and community engagement. She has introduced 5 courses, ranging from British Literature to Literatures of the Marginalised and Motherhood and Adoption Studies, into both the undergraduate and postgraduate syllabi at AMU. She was a Resident Warden of I.G. Hall (2015–17), Assistant Proctor (2020–21), and Teacher in Charge of Women’s College NCC, 3 UP Battalion (2016–21). Within the Department of English and the Centre for Skill Development and Career Planning (2018–19), she has served as an advisor to the Women’s College magazine (2017–20) and as a moderator, scrutinizer, and examiner across multiple courses. She is a member of the NAAC visit and evaluation committee of Women’s College, AMU. A member of ELT@I, MELOW, and the peer‑review committee of the Journal Langlit, she remains committed to her teaching, mentorship, and community engagement beyond institutional academia.
