Dr. Abduraheem K., born on 20 May 1965, is a distinguished academician and museologist with over 35 years of research and teaching experience. He completed his Post M.Sc. Diploma in Museology with First Rank from Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Aligarh, in 1990, followed by M.Phil. in 1993 and Ph.D. in 1995 from the same institution. He was awarded the Junior Research Fellowship (UGC) from July 1991 and subsequently the Senior Research Fellowship (UGC) from July 1993 to June 1996, which laid the foundation of his scholarly career.

Dr. Abduraheem joined AMU as a Lecturer in February 1998 and has progressively advanced through the ranks of Senior Lecturer, Reader, and Associate Professor, before being elevated to the position of Professor in the Department of Museology in 2013, a position he continues to hold. He has served as Chairman (Head of Department) of the Department of Museology at AMU during three tenures — 2011–2014, 2017–2020, and 2021 to date — demonstrating sustained academic leadership. Earlier in his career, he also served briefly as a Zooranger at the National Zoological Park, New Delhi, in 1991, reflecting his grounding in natural history and wildlife management.

At the national level, Dr. Abduraheem has held several positions of prominence. He was elected Vice President of the Indian National Committee for the International Council of Museums (ICOM India) for the period 2017–2021 and subsequently elected as its General Secretary in 2021, a position he continues to hold. He also serves as a Member of the ICOM Paris Advisory Board, underscoring his standing in the international museum community. He has served as General Secretary of the International Council for Biodeterioration of Cultural Property (ICBCP) from 2015 to March 2025 and as its Editor from 2013 to 2015. He is additionally a Member of the Oxford Round Table Conference, London, since 2008.

Dr. Abduraheem's research contributions are wide-ranging. He is the Principal Investigator of a project on Conservation of Natural History Specimens at the State Museum, Lucknow (2022 to date), and serves as Coordinator of an International Collaborative Research Project on Marble Built Heritage at Agra, in association with Nanotech System, Czech Republic, since 2019. He holds a published patent and has received international recognition for innovative research. He has published 60 research papers in reputed journals and books and has presented 65 papers at national and international conferences. To date, he has guided 15 Ph.D. scholars, of whom 10 have been awarded their degrees.

In terms of institutional responsibilities, he has served as In-charge of the University Museum of Science and Culture, AMU, from 1998 to 2014, and currently functions as Deputy Coordinator of the Musa Dakri Museum (Science and Culture Museum) since 2018. He is also the Nodal Officer of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Faculty of Life Sciences, AMU, since May 2016, and serves as Coordinator of the UGC SAP Innovative Teaching and Research Programme since 2004. He was deputed as Officer on Special Duty at AMU's Malappuram Centre, Kerala, in 2010, contributing to the establishment of a new AMU campus in the state.

Dr. Abduraheem is a Fellow of the Indian Social Science Congress since 2014 and serves as an Expert for the Kerala Public Service Commission (since October 2023) and the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (since April 2019). He has been an Advisor to the National Museum of Natural History, Ministry of Climate Change and Forest, New Delhi (2011–2014), and is a Member of the Expert Committee of the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) and the National Research Laboratory for Conservation (NRLC), Lucknow. He is also a Member of the Editorial Boards of the National Museum Institute, New Delhi, M.S. University Baroda, and Kolkata University since 2019, and serves on the Boards of Studies and expert/examination committees of several leading universities including M.S. University Baroda, BHU Varanasi, Cochin University of Science and Technology, and the National Museum Institute.
