Dr. Hiba Sami is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Microbiology, J.N. Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Aligarh, where she is actively engaged in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, academic mentoring, and research. Her research interests encompass virology, molecular microbiology, infectious diseases, host–pathogen interactions, hospital-acquired infections, and infection-associated immune responses, with a particular focus on the molecular and epidemiological aspects of emerging and re-emerging infections.

Dr. Sami has received the Prof. Asha Mathur Best Poster Award in Virology at UP MICROCON 2016. She has undergone specialised molecular training in virology at the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS), New Delhi, further strengthening her expertise in molecular approaches to infectious disease research. She has also contributed to medical student research as a mentor for an ICMR Short-Term Studentship (STS) project.

Her current research portfolio includes work on zoonotic and infectious diseases, with particular emphasis on brucellosis and viral infections. She served as Principal Investigator of an ICMR-funded project on brucellosis and Co-Principal Investigator of an ICMR-funded project on HIV–HBV co-infection. Her research integrates microbiological, molecular, diagnostic, and epidemiological approaches to address clinically relevant infectious disease problems.

Dr. Sami has also contributed to academic publishing as an editor of the Springer Nature volumes Viral and Fungal Infections of the Central Nervous System: A Microbiological Perspective and Beta-lactam Resistance in Gram-Negative Bacteria: Threats and Challenges. She has published her research in several international and national peer-reviewed journals, including Antibiotics, Advances in Virology, Frontiers in Microbiology, Urology Annals, Journal of Laboratory Physicians, Indian Journal of Medical Microbiology, New Zealand Journal of Medical Laboratory Science, and CHRISMED Journal of Health and Research.

Dr. Sami completed her MBBS and MD in Microbiology from J.N. Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University. Her academic and research work reflects a multidisciplinary approach to infectious diseases, integrating clinical microbiology, molecular diagnostics, pathogen biology, epidemiology, and host–pathogen interactions.
