Dr Arshad Amin is a distinguished academic and researcher in geography, with specialization in remote sensing, GIS, and urban and environmental geography. He earned his B.Sc. (2006), M.Sc. (2008), and Ph.D. (2012) from Aligarh Muslim University, India. With extensive teaching and research experience at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, he is currently serving in the Department of Geography at Aligarh Muslim University. His professional journey reflects strong expertise in geospatial technologies, urban planning, disaster management, and environmental analysis.
Dr Amin has been actively involved in research initiatives funded by prestigious organisations, including the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR). He has successfully completed a major research project titled “Assessment of the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) Scheme in Jammu and Kashmir: Progress, Challenges, and Future Directions (A Geospatial Approach)” in 2024. He is also currently working on another ICSSR-funded project titled “Land Transformation and Its Impact on Flood Vulnerability in Srinagar City: A Comprehensive Analysis of Socio-economic Impacts and Adaptive Strategies Using a Geospatial Approach".
He is an active researcher and has published numerous research papers in reputed national and international journals. His work broadly focuses on land-use and land-cover dynamics, urban expansion, environmental degradation, water resource management, forest monitoring, morphometric analysis, and the application of geospatial technologies to understand urban and environmental issues. His studies also include analysis of urban heat island effects, wetland changes, flood vulnerability, and sustainable urban planning using GIS and remote sensing techniques.
Dr Amin’s research contributes significantly to advancing knowledge in urban and environmental geography and supports evidence-based planning and policy-making.
- BREAKDOWN OF LAND: THE TRANSFORMATION OF HIMALAYANLAND (A GEOSPATIAL APPROACH)
The important characteristic of this study is that it gives the vibrant picture of the expansion of the city along with its causes, thereby diagnosing the urban problem. This study could help in better implementation of the proposals made by the government authorities for channelling the growth and development of the city as per the developmental plans.

.
- STUDY OF URBAN LAND USE DYNAMICS (A GEOSPATIAL APPROACH)
Dynamics of the urban centre, the city of Srinagar, were studied using a geospatial approach which included the application of remote sensing (DIP, mapping, and analysis) and GIS applications. •A comprehensive conclusion and discussion were drawn from the study that will enable stakeholders to better understand the land transformation of the city centre.
