Prof. Ayesha Farooq is a professor of strategy at the Department of Business Administration, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, India. She has served as Dean, Faculty of Management Studies & Research, and Member of the Executive Council, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh. Her significant research themes are marketing, consumer behaviour, strategy, sustainability, and entrepreneurship. She was awarded a fellowship under the Netherlands Fellowship Programme (NFP) in 2013 and visited the Maastricht School of Management, The Netherlands. Dr. Farooq has presented papers at international and national conferences. Several times, she has attended conferences funded by GRCC (Islamic Centre at the University of Cambridge), UK. Prof. Farooq has visited the UK, France, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, and Malaysia for academic events.
She has published research articles in international and national journals of academic repute and in SCOPUS-indexed and ABDC journals and has been cited extensively for her research work. Her research paper, ‘Towards Sustainable Leather Industry,’ at the Academy for Global Business Advancement’s 16th World Congress, July 2019, IIT Delhi, received the best paper award.
Dr. Farooq is
a resource person at many management schools, with special mention of the Cadbury
Centre, University of Birmingham (United Kingdom), and created video
content for UOB on different aspects of strategic management. She has conducted
MDPs on strategic management at AIMA and workshops on leadership & TQM at
the department. Besides academia, she has professional experience as a management
consultant to local industry and entrepreneurs.
She
is constantly involved with social entrepreneurship and women's empowerment
projects with her passion for contributing to society. She has been
sanctioned projects worth Rs. 1.32 crores for skill
development and training of artisans of Uttar Pradesh in 2019-20 by the
Development Commissioner Handicraft, Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of
India.
Her other efforts in service of AMU include being a member of the Alumni Affairs Committee, a member of the Centre for Distance and Online Education, a member of the Research and Development Committee, and a member of the Executive Committee of the AMU Women's Club. Dr. Farooq is proactive in gender justice issues and was appointed a member of the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC), AMU. She is also appointed as the Faculty Nodal teacher for the Gender Champion Scheme sanctioned by the Ministry of Human Resources Development, New Delhi. She has served as president of the Project and Event Management Council (UP), WICCI, India.
For the last few years, she has been working toward inculcating the concepts of sustainability and social entrepreneurship among her students. She has designed a few courses on these ideas and incorporated them into the program curriculum. She has created a project named ‘AppliKraft’ to revive the legacy of Aligarh applique and simultaneously help artisans' financial sustainability. She firmly believes in making management education relevant to society by creating a vision of holistic development of all the stakeholders.
She has been awarded the Women Warrior Award by Women Economic Forum, India; the Women Icon Award by Nagar Nigam (Municipal Corporation) Aligarh; the Pentagon Excellence Award by the Zakir Hussain Foundation Aligarh; and the 1000 Women of Asia Award by Womennovator, India.
