| Workshop on Availing E-Resources Platforms Organised by Department of Psychiatry, AMU Aligarh, April 29, 2026: The Department of Psychiatry, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), successfully organized a one-day workshop on “Availing Various E-Resources Platforms” on 27th April 2026. The workshop aimed to enhance awareness and optimal utilization of digital library resources among faculty, researchers, and postgraduate students in the medical field. Mr. Aquil Ahmad, Assistant Librarian, delivered an informative and interactive lecture during the workshop. He provided a comprehensive overview of key e-resources and emphasized their practical application in academic and clinical research. He particularly highlighted the importance of WEBOPAC, AMU E-Library, AccessMedicine, ClinicalKey, advanced E-Books Search, Online Journals, One Nation One Subscription (ONOS), and BMJ resources. Mr. Aquil Ahmad demonstrated step-by-step navigation and effective search techniques, enabling participants to make the best use of these platforms for accessing high-quality medical literature, journals, and clinical information. Dr. Mohammed Reyazuddin, Chairman, Department of Psychiatry, presided over the event and delivered the Vote of Thanks. He appreciated Mr. Aquil Ahmad’s valuable session and underscored the importance of staying updated with modern digital resources for quality teaching, research, and patient care. | FACULTY DELIVERED LECTURE ON NATIONAL PLATFORM Representing the Department of Psychiatry, JNMC-AMU, Dr. Reyazuddin was the keynote speaker for the 274th session of the prestigious virtual series Thursday Musings, supported by the Indian Psychiatric Society (IPS) – Odisha State Branch. The topic, “Practical Implementation: Ketamine Therapy in Everyday Psychiatric Care”, was presented from 8:00 PM to 9:30 PM IST via Zoom to a large audience of psychiatrists across India. Dr. Reyazuddin provided a comprehensive, evidence-based guide on integrating ketamine into routine clinical practice, including patient selection for treatment-resistant depression (TRD) and acute suicidality, dosing protocols (IV racemic ketamine and intranasal esketamine), administration and monitoring procedures, side-effect management, combination with standard antidepressants/psychotherapy, and ethical/regulatory considerations relevant to Indian settings. On Ketamine Therapy Ketamine represents a paradigm shift in treating severe, treatment-resistant mental disorders. As an NMDA receptor antagonist, it rapidly enhances glutamatergic signaling, boosts BDNF levels, promotes synaptogenesis, and restores prefrontal-hippocampal connectivity—leading to antidepressant effects within hours (unlike traditional agents requiring weeks). Clinical studies show 50–70% response rates in TRD and suicidal patients, making it a potentially life-saving option when other treatments fail. The session was chaired by Dr. Challa S V Krishna (Kakinada) and Dr. Gaurav Uppal (Ludhiana), with moderation by senior national faculty. | World Mental health day 2025 ALIGARH, October 14: The Department of Psychiatry, in collaboration with the Department of Community Medicine, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University, organized a special programme to commemorate World Mental Health Dayand the event was graced by Prof Mohammad Habib Raza, Dean, Faculty of Medicine, as the Chief Guest, and Prof Amjad Ali Rizwi, Medical Superintendent, as the Guest of Honour. In his address, Prof Mohammad Habib Raza underscored the growing importance of mental health literacy in the medical curriculum and commended the launch of the Psychiatry Club as a timely initiative to empower future healthcare professionals. Prof Amjad Ali Rizwi appreciated the departments’ collaborative efforts and encouraged continued initiatives to integrate mental health advocacy into student life and medical education. The programme began with an introduction by Dr Faisal Shaan, followed by expert talks addressing various dimensions of mental health and community resilience. Dr Mohammad Salman Shah (Department of Community Medicine) delivered a lecture on “Community Resilience: Strengthening Mental Health in Disasters,” emphasizing the role of preparedness and coordinated public health response in mitigating psychological impact during crises. Dr Jitendra Kumar (Department of Psychiatry) presented on “Bridging Mental Health Gaps in Catastrophe: A Psychological Lens,” highlighting the importance of early intervention and psychological support in disaster and emergency settings. Earlier, Dr Mohammed Reyazuddin, Chairperson, Department of Psychiatry, welcomed the guests and participants, stressing the significance of observing World Mental Health Day to foster awareness, compassion, and proactive approaches to mental well-being. One of the highlights of the event was the launch of the Psychiatry Club by the Department of Psychiatry, an initiative aimed at promoting mental health advocacy among undergraduate students. | Addiction Treatment Facility Inauguration of Addiction Treatment Facility at JNMCH, Aligarh Muslim University Aligarh, August 20, 2025 – The Department of Psychiatry at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMCH), Aligarh Muslim University, inaugurated its state-of-the-art Addiction Treatment Facility (ATF) on August 20, 2025, at the Psychiatry OPD/IPD premises. Supported by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, under the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR), this facility enhances JNMCH’s efforts to combat substance use disorders through comprehensive de-addiction services, including outpatient (OPD) and inpatient (IPD) care, and free medications, with a focus on alcohol and opioid use disorders. The ceremony, hosted by Dr. Shreya Agarwal, was attended by Prof. Mohammad Habib Raza, Dean and Principal, Faculty of Medicine, JNMCH, as Chief Guest, and Prof. Syed Amjad Ali Rizvi, Medical Superintendent, JNMCH, as Guest of Honor. Dr. Mohammed Reyazuddin, Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry, delivered a welcome address, expressing gratitude to the previous Chairman, Principal, and the Ministry for their support, and acknowledging the pivotal role of Prof. Naima Khatoon, Vice Chancellor, for her unwavering support in establishing the ATF. Dr. Faisal Shaan presented the facility’s services, highlighting specialized OPD and IPD care and free medications for alcohol and opioid use disorders. The event included the felicitation of the ATF’s newly recruited staff, comprising five nursing staff, two counsellors, and one data manager, who will ensure high-quality care. Prof. Raza and Prof. Rizvi praised the Department of Psychiatry’s proactive approach and emphasized the importance of accessible deaddiction services. The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Jitendra Kumar and the formal inauguration of the ATF. The ATF at JNMCH is equipped with modern resources and staffed by dedicated professionals offering evidence-based interventions, counseling, and rehabilitation. | Workshop on Demystifying Gender and Transgender Healthcare Workshop on Demystifying Gender and Transgender Healthcare The Department of Psychiatry, in collaboration with the National Centre of Excellence for Gender Affirmative Care and Transgender Health, AIIMS, New Delhi, organized a sensitization workshop on "Demystifying Gender and Transgender Healthcare".
The workshop featured a distinguished lecture by Dr. Micol Rothman, Professor of Endocrinology and Medical Director of the UCHealth Integrated Transgender Program, University of Colorado. Dr. Bela Sharma, Medical Director of ATHI (Association of transgender health in India), provided an overview of transgender healthcare in India.
The workshop was attended by esteemed guests, including the Dean, Principal, Chairman, faculty members, and postgraduate students from various departments.
