“Management of COPD Exacerbation”

The department of Moalejat, Faculty of Unani Medicine organized a Guest Lecture byProf. Mohammad Shameem, Department of TB and Chest Diseases F/o Medicine, JNMCH., A.M.U., Aligarh on (Thursday) 06/06/2024.

The lecture was presided over by Prof. Ubaidullah Khan, Dean, F/o Medicine, JNMCH., A.M.U., Aligarh.

Prof. Badrudduja Khan, chairman of department of Moalejat and convener of guest lecture welcome the guest speaker and introduce him to audience.Prof. Mohammad Shameem, in his lecture emphasized on definition, diagnosis and management of COPD. He also emphasized on Acute Exacerbation cause, importance of diagnosis and management of Acute Exacerbation of COPD.

The lecture was very informative and includes all aspects of COPD, its causes and epidemiology, he also state that currently COPD is third leading cause of death and by 2030, it will be on top. The condition is also severe in India. He further stated current diagnostic and treatment protocol according to Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Disease (GOLD) guidelines and how to differentiate between Bronchial Ashtma and COPD. Further he emphasized on acute exacerbation of COPD, importance of managing acute exacerbation effectively and its relation with life expectancy of survivors. He further in detail discuss about recent treatment guidelines according to GOLD 2023 and elaborated use of triple therapy for better and effective treatment.

Anwar , Department of Ilaj Bit tadbeer, Dr. Abdur Rauf, Chairman Department of Ilmul Advia and Dr. Mohammad Mohsin, Chairman, Department of Amraze Jild wa Zohrawiya were also present along with faculty members of department of Moalejat namely- Prof. Tabassum Latafat, Prof. Tanzeel Ahmad, Dr. S. Javed Ali, Dr. Sadaf; P.G Scholars and interns of department of Moalejat were present and praise the lecture.

At the end Prof. Ubaidullah Khan, Dean and Prof. Badrudduja Khan, chairman of department presented memento and certificate to the speaker.

“Guest Lecture on Diabetic Retinopathy- The New Blinder”

The department of Moalejat, Faculty of Unani Medicine organized a Guest Lecture by Prof. Abdul Warison (Friday) 31/05/2024.

Dr. Jamal Azmat, welcome the guest speaker and introduce him to audience. Prof. Abdul Waris, Department of Ophthalmology, F/o Medicine, JNMCH.,A.M.U., Aligarh delivered lecture on topic- Diabetic Retinopathy- The New Blinder. He emphasized on early referral of all diabetic patients for fundus examination to detect retinopathy at earliest stage, so it can be managed effectively. He also emphasized on annual follow up of all diabetic after 08 years of diabetes. He also discussed the importance of holistic approach in the control of diabetes, thereby preventing Diabetic Retinopathy. He also emphasized over the importance of awareness of diabetic retinopathy among general formulation.

The department of Moalejat, Faculty of Unani Medicine organizeda CME in collaboration with AIMIL Pharmaceuticals on Metabolic Disorderson (Tuesday) 27/05/2024.

Prof. Badrudduja Khan, Chairman department of Moalejat, Faculty of Unani Medicine in his lecture stated that Metabolic disorders are increasingly prevalent in India due to shifting lifestyles, urbanization, and dietary changes. Conditions like diabetes, obesity, hypertension, and dyslipidemia are on the rise, posing significant health challenges. The management of these disorders often requires a holistic approach, and traditional systems of medicine like Unani and herbal medicine have been playing a significant role in addressing them.

Unani Medicine, focuses on the balance of Akhlat (bodily humors) and believes in the holistic treatment of ailments. Herbal medicines form a core component of Unani therapy, utilizing natural ingredients like herbs, minerals, and animal products.

In managing metabolic disorders, Unani medicine emphasizes lifestyle modifications, dietary changes, physical activity, and the use of herbal formulations.

The advantage of Unani and herbal medicine lies in their potential to provide effective treatment with fewer side effects compared to conventional medications. Additionally, these traditional systems often emphasize personalized treatment, considering individual variations in symptoms and constitution.

However, it's crucial to note that while Unani and herbal medicine offer promising avenues for managing metabolic disorders, their efficacy and safety should be validated through scientific research and clinical trials. Integrating these traditional practices with modern medicine under proper supervision can lead to comprehensive.

Dr. Moahmmad Faiz, Manager, AIMIL Pharmaceuticals, gave insights about potential of herbal medicine in managing Metabolic disorders and also gave detail description of products of AIMIL Pharmaceuticals useful in Metabolic disorders.

“Health Awareness Camp”

The department of Moalejat, Faculty of Unani Medicine under the able leadership of Prof. Badrudduja Khan, Chairman of department, organized a Health Awareness Camp at A.H. Indus Public school Aligarhon (Tuesday) 21/05/2024.

Dr. S. Javed Ali, Assistant Professor Department of Moalejat deliver his lecture on topic Health and Hygiene during summer followed by him,Mohd. Mushfiq &Abdullah Faizul Hasan, M.D. scholars of Department of Moalejat delivered Lecture on Topic- Do’s and Don’ts during summer. Both lectures emphasized that heat and sweat in the summer months can leave body dehydrated and causing unwanted health conditions.Drinking at least 2 to 3 liters of water every day,programme outdoor activities to the cooler parts of the day and to-

1. Wear loose clothing.

2. Easy digesting food to avoid indigestion and bloating.

3. Wear sunglasses to protect your eyes from the harsh rays of the sun.

4. Protect your skin from the ultraviolet rays by putting on generous amounts of sunscreen.

5. Avoid excessive caffeine consumption.

6. Try to stay indoors during the afternoons.

7. Avoid fast food, deep-fried or street food.

8. Drink plenty of water and other fluids.

9. Do not skip working out.

10. Keep your packaged drinks’ consumption under control as they contain high amounts of added sugar.

11. Consume seasonal fruits and veggies.

Principal of the school Mrs. Shaheen Parveen welcomed the members of the department of Moalejat and she appraised the efforts of the department and requested the Chairperson to have such lectures in future also.

Prof. Badrudduja Khan, Chairman department of Moalejat, Faculty of Unani Medicine appreciated the school management to organize such lectures for the students in coming future.
