30-NOV-2015: Prof. Shabahat Husain, Chairman, Department of Library and Information Sciences, along with Dr. Muzammil Mushtaq, Assistant Professor attended "11th International Conference on Webometrics, Informetrics, and Scientometrics (WIS)" organized recently in New Delhi.

More than 300 delegates from 19 countries attended the conference while a large number of scholars presented papers in the plenary and technical sessions.

Prof. Shabahat Husain chaired a plenary session in which Prof. Hildrun Kretschmer from Germany, Dr. Grant Lewison from UK and Prof. I. K. Ravichandra Rao delivered keynote addresses.

Prof. Shabahat Husain (Chairman) and Dr. Muzammil Mushtaq also presented a paper on "Application of Bibliometric Laws and literature mapping on Brain Tumor as reflected from SCI-Expanded". During discussion, it was suggested that the findings of the paper on Brain Tumor may be passed on to the concerned medical practitioners so that the information may be gainfully utilized.

30-NOV-2015: The students of Department of Library and Information Science, Aligarh Muslim University organized the inaugural function of their association, Muslim University Library Science Students' Association (MULSA) Session 2015-16 in the Department of Library and Information Science. Prof. N.A.K. Durrani, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences was the chief guest.

Prof. Shabahat Husain, Chairman, Department of Library and Information Science and Patron, MULSA welcomed the guest and highlighted the objective behind creation of the association. Dr. Nishat Fatima conducted the installation ceremony of the office bearers of the Association. Mr. Abdul Qadir Khan was declared President while Mr. Mohammad Ashar was declared Vice President and Miss Verda Khan Chaouhan, the Secretary.

Addressing the installation ceremony, Prof. N.A.K. Durrani said that besides academic and cultural activities, the students should involve themselves in social activities also. The undergraduate and postgraduate students of the department presented a cultural programme on this occasion.

Prof. Naushad Ali PM, Dr. Sudharma Haridasan, Dr. Masoom Raza, Dr. Muzmmil Mushtaq and Dr. Mohammad Nazim were present in the programme.

News 07-MAR-2014: The Department of Library and Information Science, Aligarh Muslim University organized a symposium on "Modern Trends in Library and Information Services" in the Conference Hall of Faculty of Social Sciences. Prof. Gabriel Gomez from Chicago State University, Chicago, USA delivered the keynote address as chief guest.

Prof. Gomez conversed about the big data and Information Literacy. He talked about the variety of information literacy skill that needs to be incorporated in the information users and stressed upon the lifelong learning phenomena in the present information society. There is a huge ocean of data available at the finger tips of users and proficiency in identifying and selecting the relevant content out of the whole sum, is imperative for one and all.

Dr. Naushad Ali PM, coordinator of the symposium, welcomed the guests. In his welcome speech, he laid emphasis on the existence and validity of the library science profession in the contemporary milieu and the challenges facing the information professionals with regard to the ICT enabled techniques and tools.

The symposium was presided over by Prof. Shabahat Husain, Dean, faculty of Social Sciences and Chairman, Department of Library and Information Science. In his presidential remarks, he portrayed the comparative analysis of the historical account of the library science profession and the current scenario of the subject and visualized a comprehensive outlook of the profession and the changes that occurred vis-à-vis the response and reactions from the library and information science professionals.

Mr. S. Mustafa Zaidi proposed a vote of thanks. The program comprised two technical sessions in which about 15 research papers were presented.
