Prof. Saba Khan Nominated as Member of AMU University Court
December 15: Prof. Saba Khan, Chairperson of the Department of Home Science, Aligarh Muslim University, has been declared a member of the University Court under Statute 14(1)(xiii) of the Statutes of the University.
Her nomination has been made in her capacity as the next senior-most Chairperson by rotation. She will serve on the University Court for a period of three years or until she continues as Chairperson of the concerned department, whichever is earlier, with immediate effect.

AMU Researchers Win Best Paper Award for Study on AI Governance in Public Health Nutrition
ALIGARH, December 10: A research paper titled "Generative AI in Public Health Nutrition: Risks and Responsibilities", authored and presented by Ms Uzma Islam, Research Scholar, and Dr Zeba, Assistant Professor, Department of Home Science, Aligarh Muslim University, won the Best Paper Award at the National Conference on AI Governance: Strategies, Ethics, and Public Policy. The conference was organised by SDGI Global University, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.
The paper critically examined the risks associated with the use of Generative Artificial Intelligence in public health nutrition. It highlighted major gaps in India's existing legal and policy frameworks for AI governance, particularly in healthcare and nutrition, and proposed the development of a comprehensive, sustainable and sector-specific regulatory model for AI governance in healthcare.
Ms Uzma is pursuing her research under the supervision of Dr Zeba. Chairperson of the department, Prof. Saba Khan, congratulated both researchers for their achievement and commended their dedicated efforts.

AMU Students Explore Farming System-based Livelihood at Kisan Mela, Quarsi Krishi Farm
ALIGARH, October 7: The first-semester students of B.Sc. Community Science, Department of Home Science, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), visited Quarsi Krishi Farm Parisar to participate in the Krishi Gyan Sangoshthi / Kisan Mela organized under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana.
The visit was organized as part of the practical component of the subject Farming Based Livelihood, under the guidance of Dr. Heena Parveen. The objective was to provide students with a deeper understanding of the role of farming-based livelihood systems and enterprises in rural development.
During the visit, students conducted a practical survey among farmers to raise awareness about diverse farming systems and agriculture-based livelihood enterprises. The exercise also helped them understand the real-life challenges faced by farmers in managing farming systems and allied activities.
Commenting on the visit, Prof. Saba Khan, Chairperson of the Department, stressed that through direct interaction with the farming community, students gained valuable insights into issues related to production, marketing, and sustainability of farming enterprises. This hands-on experience not only enhanced their practical knowledge but also sensitized them to the importance of addressing farmers’ concerns for promoting sustainable agricultural livelihoods.

AMU Establishes ‘Prof. Anisa Musarath Durrani Merit-cum-Means Scholarship’ with Rs 2 Lakh Donation
ALIGARH, September 3: A new scholarship has been instituted at the Department of Home Science, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), through a generous donation of Rs 2,00,000 by Prof. Anisa Musarath Durrani, a retired faculty member of the university.
The scholarship, titled the ‘Prof. Anisa Musarath Durrani Merit-cum-Means Scholarship’, will support one deserving student from the minority community enrolled in the final year of the M.Sc. Home Science programme from the session 2025-26.
According to the terms, the awardee will be chosen on the basis of both merit and means, taking into consideration the financial status of the family, class attendance record, sessional marks, and examination results from the past year. The selection will be made by a committee of three faculty members from the Department of Home Science.
The scholarship is open to students from minority communities including Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Jains and Buddhists.
