Seminar on International Snake Bite Awareness Day on 19.09.2025

The Department of Medicine, JN Medical College (JNMC) observed International Snake Bite Awareness Day on 19.09.2025 from 8:00 am to 10:00 am. The event took place at the Seminar Room and Enquiry Room Hall, JNMCH. It was aimed at raising awareness and educating medical professionals and the general public about the timely diagnosis, management, and prevention of Snake Bite.

The programme began with a warm welcome address by Chairman, Prof. Khwaja Saifullah Zafar in the Department of Medicine who greeted all attendees and introduced the purpose and significance of the event. This was followed by the felicitation of the Chief Guest, Dean, Principal & CMS (Prof. Mohd Habib Raza).

Prof. Mohammad Habib Raza, Principal and CMS, then addressed the gathering. Following this, The Chairman, threw light on the epidemiology, causes and preventive measures associated with the menace of Snake Bite in our rural and urban communities. In his speech, he emphasized the importance of institutional readiness in dealing with rising cases of Snake Bite and related illnesses during the rainy season.

One of the programme's highlights was a detailed presentation by Dr. Ahmad Raza, Senior Resident in the Department of Medicine regarding the management of Snake Bite patients.

The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Prof. Shahzad Faizul Haque, Department of Medicine where he expressed his gratitude to the chief guest, speakers, faculty members, and participants for their valuable contributions. The programme wrapped up with tea and snacks session, allowing attendees to interact informally and reflect on the day's learnings.

A hospital community awareness programme on the subject of prevention, early diagnosis, do’s and donts’ and early hospital referral for snake bite victims was held in the Enquiry Room Hall, JNMCH by Dr. S. Hasan Amir (Associate Professor), Dr. Lubna Zafar and Dr. Husaini. S. Haider Mehdi, Assistant Professors, Department of Medicine.

A video recording has also been made as per directions of government of India of snake bite patient relating her ordeal regarding the incident and the course of treatment she received.

The “Snake Bite Awareness Educational Programme” was a well-organized and impactful event. It highlighted the proactive approach of the Department of Medicine, JN Medical College, in tackling seasonal health challenges and underscored the importance of collaboration and continuous education in the medical field.
