AMU Dental Student’s Research Proposal Selected for IAPHD Research Grants 2025

The Department of Periodontia and Community Dentistry, Dr. Ziauddin Ahmad Dental College, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), has achieved a remarkable distinction with the selection of its undergraduate research proposal for the prestigious IAPHD Research Grants 2025, organized by the Indian Association of Public Health Dentistry (IAPHD).

Among nine selected candidates from across India, Ms. Yashi Gupta, a second-year BDS student, secured approval for grant funding under the undergraduate category. Her research project focuses on developing accessible oral health education tools and validating educational materials for visually impaired individuals, with the aim of promoting inclusivity and improving oral health literacy among persons with visual disabilities.

The project is being conducted under the supervision of Prof. Neha Agrawal, Chairperson, Department of Periodontia and Community Dentistry, and Dr. Syed Amaan Ali (Co-Guide).

Prof Agrawal said that the IAPHD Research Grants serve as a platform to encourage young dental researchers to contribute meaningfully to community-based oral health promotion and evidence-based public health initiatives.

Prof. R. K. Tewari, Principal, Dr. Ziauddin Ahmad Dental College, congratulated Ms. Yashi Gupta and her mentors for this notable accomplishment and for bringing laurels to the university through their dedication and scholarly contribution.

ICMR Grants Financial Support to AMU MDS Thesis Research

A postgraduate research project from the Department of Periodontia and Community Dentistry, Dr. Ziauddin Ahmad Dental College, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), has been awarded financial support by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) under the Department of Health Research (DHR) programme.

The study aims to explore innovative molecular approaches for the early detection of oral cancer among individuals with tobacco exposure, marking a significant step toward enhancing preventive and diagnostic strategies in oral health and oncology.

The research is being conducted by Dr.Hridya J, Junior Resident (MDS), under the supervision of Prof Neha Agrawal, Chairperson, Department of Periodontia and Community Dentistry. The project team also includes Dr. Pramod Kumar Yadav, Dr.Safia Habib (Department of Biochemistry, J.N. Medical College), Dr. Juhi Gupta, and Dr. Syed Amaan Ali as co-guides.

Prof R. K. Tewari, Principal, Dr. Ziauddin Ahmad Dental College, has been instrumental in promoting a research culture and academic excellence , congratulated Prof Agrawal and Dr Hridya J. on their achievement that showcases AMU’s commitment in advancing translational research and contribution to national efforts in cancer prevention and early detection.
