05-NOV-2014: "Team Green Warriors", a team of students from Zakir Husain College of Engineering and Technology, Aligarh Muslim University secured eighteenth rank in "Efficycle-2014", organised by "Society of Automotive Engineers- India" (SAE India). The team designed a Three-wheeled Electric-Hybrid Vehicle that could run on human as well as electric power, simultaneously and alternatively, with the motto "Reduce Pollution, Ride the Solution".
The analytical and detailed work in designing and fabrication paid off, when the technical inspections including safety check, electric run, Figure of 8 and brake test were cleared without any obstacle. The team performed exceptionally well in static events consisting of Design, Marketing, Cost and Innovation rounds and Dynamic events consisting of Acceleration, Utility, Maneuverability, Gradient. Clearing all these hurdles, the team got nineteenth pole position for the final endurance race. The vehicle, designed by the team successfully completed the two-hour endurance run without any breakdown. The vehicle was appreciated for its robust design, marketing presentation and cost report.
"Efficycle-2014" is an intercollegiate design competition for engineering students where teams have to design and fabricate an energy efficient vehicle. The purpose of the event is to provide an opportunity for engineering students by setting up a trend of using eco-friendly vehicles in India and come up with some innovative designs. Students have to tackle real world engineering problems, work in multidisciplinary teams, practice design for manufacturability and manage a full product development cycle of life.
The team consisted of Ayush Mittal, Karan Agarwal, Anchal Varshney, Musfera Javed, Ashwin Kumar, Aman Garg, Mohd Yaqzan, Suruchi Sharma, Mehul Varshney and Arpit Upadhyay. The team thanked Mr Nafees Ahmad-II and Dr Syed Fahad Anwar, Department of Mechanical Engineering, AMU for their effective supervision and the University administration for its extended support. Around 260 teams from all over India participated in the grand event.
