03-MAY-2015: Viqar ul Mulk Hall and Aftab Hall of Aligarh Muslim University recently organized their annual hall functions with great zeal and enthusiasm.
In the V M Hall's annual function, 'Al-Viqar-2015,' the chief guest, renowned Alumni, NRI business man and AMU Court member, Dr Nadeem AKhtar Tarin lamented that various university halls are in a way training centers for students who are about to move into varied careers.
Dr Tarin urged students not to shy away from starting their careers at small levels. "It begins with a small level and leads to splendid career," said Dr Tarin. He also urged students to cooperate with the university administration for maintaining law and order in the campus as academic excellence is best achieved in peaceful campus premises.
Presiding over the function, Aligarh Muslim University Vice Chancellor, Lt General Zameer Uddin Shah (retd) asked students to take inspiration from Dr Tarin and excel in their careers. He informed students that Dr Tarin has confirmed a financial assistance for the construction of a new university hall.
General Shah pointed out that it has been his aim since taking up the charge in AMU to make the university number one in academic excellence and prevent students from dividing into groups based on regionalism, ethnicity and religious fractions. He also pointed out that the progress of any academic institution depends on law and order and peace in its premises. "I am trying everyday to increase facilities for the students and it is expected that the students keep showing respect to their teachers," said General Shah.
V M Hall's Provost, Professor Shadab Khurseed said that students should consider Alumni like Dr Tarin as a role model and follow his footsteps.
Senior Hall of V M Hall, Abdul Quddus presented the annual report and highlighted achievements of V M Hall resident students in various fields of academic and non-academic areas such as qualifying competitive examinations and participation in sports and cultural activities.
Mr Abdul Khaliq Kamil conducted the program while Mr Syed Mohd Arif Hussain delivered the vote of thanks. Mr Farhath Naim, Senior Food welcomed the guests.
In Anuual Hall function, 'Shihaab-2015' of the Aftab Hall held at the Mumtaz House Lawn, the chief guest, former Consultant General Surgeon and ex- AMUSU president and Aftab Hall's Senior Hall, Dr Mohsin Raza recollected memories of Aftab Hall in the late 60's. He told a gathering of hall students while delivering his keynote lecture that in the 60's and 70's Aftab Hall produced many civil servants and scientists who have served the Nation and International community.
"The Aftab Hall resident students should carry on the tradition of academic excellence followed by splendid careers," urged Dr Raza.
Dr Raza added that living in Aftab Hall taught us religious and communal harmony and brotherhood which should be there in the Country. "I remember that we had students of various religious and economic backgrounds living in harmony in Aftab Hall. We use to share ups and downs and stand at each others side in difficult times," said Dr Raza.
Dr Raza said that I was a witness to a very hard time in AMU when the AMU's minority character was taken away and several students were arrested. "In 1965, which could be termed as the darkest era of the university, students of different religious backgrounds stood like brothers," said Dr Raza.
The guest of honour, Professor Ali Athar, who is the chairman, Department of History urged students to enjoy their student life and shape their careers in the best possible ways. "This is the best time in your life and I advise you to use it wisely. Make good careers and enjoy your life as students," said Prof Athar while addressing the students of Aftab Hall.
Dr Meraj Ahmad, Provost of the Aftab Hall compared Aftab Hall resident students with shinning stars. He said, "you will make world beautiful, the way shinning stars make the sky look marvelous." Dr Ahmad further urged students to achieve excellence in all spheres of life.
Special Guest in the function, Dr Wasim Raja of the Department of history urged students to never loose their momentum. "Have a balanced life, which should include excellence in all spheres and never loose the momentum," said Dr Raja who added that besides academic excellence resident students of Aftab hall and other Halls have maintained the Tehzeeb (culture) associated with AMU. I hope the current Aftab Hall students will move ahead in their lives with the same Tehzeeb as the former residents of the Hall.
The Acting Food Monitor and Senior Hall of Aftab Hall, Mr Mohd Imran presented Aftab Hall's Annual Report, which highlighted the excellence of students in academic and non- academic fields. The Annual report mentioned names of scores of students who have qualified UGC Net, State Civil Services and other National level competitive exams.
While Mr Rehan Ahmad conducted the program, Dr Zargham delivered the vote of thanks.
