06-AUG-2016: The Department of Anaesthesiology, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC) and 'Critical Care' today organised a day-long Symposium-cum-Workshop on the role of 'Ultrasonography in Regional Anaesthesia and Pain Management'.
Aligarh Muslim University Vice Chancellor, Lt General Zameer Uddin Shah (retd), who attended the inaugural function of the programme as the Chief Guest said that Ultrasonography role in pain management is huge. He added that with the help of this technology it has become easy to identify which part of the body is suffering from pain.
Sharing his experience of service in the army, the Vice Chancellor said he has seen soldiers suffering gun-shot and mine blast injuries in which they were given morphine to release their pain. He added that it is different in big hospitals where patients with various diseases suffer terrible pain, where you need the best facilities of Ultrasonography for pain management.
Aligarh Muslim University Pro Vice Chancellor, Brigadier S Ahmad Ali (retd) congratulated the Department of Anaesthesia for initiating the first symposium of the new session. Highlighting the importance of the Workshop, the Pro Vice Chancellor said that with the help of ultrasonography, chances of patient's safety are high.
Dr Syed Farooq, President Himalaya Drugs Company said that the basic work of any medicine is to relieve pain and it is with sonography and ultra-sound that the areas of pain can be identified. He added that pain in major diseases cannot be cured without identifying the exact pain-causing portions of the body.
Prof M Amanullah Khan, Dean Faculty of Medicine said that since workshops help in teaching skills, it is important to organize more such workshops. He further said that as a surgeon he has a long association with the Department of Anaesthesia and he is a witness to the hardworking doctors, serving this Department.
While welcoming the dignitaries and other guests, Professor Tariq Mansoor, Principal, JNMC said that JNMC's Department of Anaesthesia has state-of art facilities and the Department's stalwarts and fresh pass-outs are working with the best medical centres in the country. He added that the Department is also managing an ICU besides working in operation theatres and other important duties.
Dr Surabhi Choudhary, consultant musculoskeletal radiologist, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, UK, who was the lead resource person and the international faculty for the workshop said she is here to share her skills in the workshop with a hope that her tips will be useful for doctors attending the programme. Dr Surabhi also spoke on basics of ultrasound, knobology, image optimization and Sonoanatomy of shoulder and knee joints in the technical sessions.
Introducing the guests at the programme, Dr Hammad Usmani, Organizing Secretary of the programme said that there is resurgence in the field of regional anaesthesia and pain management as there is a growing accessibility of ultrasound machine.
The guests also received mementos in the conclusion of the inaugural function.
While Dr Obaid Ahmad Siddiqui was the co-organising Secretary of the programme, Dr Shahna Ali conducted the programme.
Prof Abdul Quadir delivered the vote of thanks.
