23-DEC-2017: Prof Samdani presents paper in international conference
ALIGARH December 23: Prof Shakeel Ahmad Samdani (Department of law, Aligarh Muslim University?AMU) attended a three-day international conference organised by Islamic Fiqh Academy at Mumbai.
He presented paper entitled ?Animals Rights in India and Non Governmental organisations (NGOs)? which was well appreciated by delegates from across the country.
Prof Samdani said that there are sufficient laws to prevent cruelty against animals in India and successive governments have been amending laws to prevent the abuse and cruelty against animals.
He discussed various provisions of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 and Wild Life Protection Act, 1972.
Prof Samdani pointed out that due to insufficient knowledge and lack of awareness, people are unable to prevent cruelty against animals.
?The laws passed by the parliament have conferred sufficient power on the public at large to prevent the misuse and uncruel behaviour against the animals,? said Prof Samdani adding that people have right to stop atrocities against animals and it is their duty to inform the law enforcing agencies including NGOs, if they notice any incident of cruelty. He also discussed the work of a rising number of NGOs enagaged in commendable work
The three day international conference was attended by delegates including Islamic scholars from Bahrain, turkey, Bangladesh, south Africa, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia and Britain.
The conference was inaugurated by Maulana Syed Rabey Hasani Nadwi, while Maulana Nematulla Azmi (President, Islamic Fiqh Academy) presided over the programme. The seminar was a great success due to the tireless efforts of Maulana Khalid Saifulla Rehmani, secretary of Islamic Fiqh Academy.
