21-APR-2018: Dept of Geography concludes ICSSR Capacity Building Programme
Aligarh, April 21: Department of Geography, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) concluded the two-week Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) Capacity Building Programme in which research techniques and concepts of social science research were discussed with other topics.
During the valedictory function, AMU Pro Vice Chancellor, Professor Tabassum Shahab highlighted the need of high quality research. He pointed out that public institutions and universities have the responsibility of promoting research integrity practices and monitoring infractions. ?Research plays a key role in shaping the world in which we live and as such, the integrity of research is vital,? said the Pro Vice Chancellor.
AMU is ranked in the top ten Indian universities is a testimony to its academic performance, he added.
The Chief-Guest, Prof R K Mishra said that a faculty without research aptitudes and high impacted publication is destined to perish. He discussed how research upgrades the text and students with new knowledge and innovation. He informed that the Institute of Public Enterprise, Hyderabad is offering collaboration with the Department of Geography, AMU.
Prof M Shakir (Dean, Faculty of Science) said that capacity building programmes are important for academic careers of young faculty members as they enrich new philosophies, ideas, research techniques, paradigm shifts and frontiers of research.
Presenting the report of academic discussions and deliberations during the programme, Prof Nizamuddin Khan (Director of the programme) informed that 30 participants from various states and resource persons from distinct disciplines such as geography, economics, education, women studies, management, agricultural economics, psychology, political science, linguistic and statistics were present in the programme.
Prof Ateeque Ahmad (Chairperson, Department of Geography) delivered the welcome address, while Prof S Naushad proposed the vote of thanks. Dr Mumtaz Ahmad conducted the valedictory function.
