02-AUG-2019: White Coat ceremony held
ALIGARH August 2: Urging the medical entrants at the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University to "develop a vision from the very beginning to understand the special situation and condition of patients and display higher level of tolerance, sympathy and empathy towards them", Professor S C Sharma, Dean, Faculty of Medicine and Principal and CMS, J N Medical College, congratulated the newly admitted medical students for their hard work that helped their children to achieve success.
Addressing the White Coat ceremony at the J N Medical College, Professor Sharma exhorted the new batch of MBBS students to adhere to AMU's code of honour, respect their teachers and fellow health professionals and never lose sight of their purpose and duty.
Professor Seema Hakim, Coordinator, Medical Education Unit (MEU), said that the white coat ceremony is a symbol of acceptance of great ideals of service to humanity, purity, peace and human dignity. She said that the white coat worn by doctors automatically draws respect and confidence of patients and they have onus on them to keep the patients' trust.
Prof Veena Maheshwari, Coordinator, Foundation Course congratulated the students on becoming a part of medical fraternity and urged them to prepare themselves for complete dedication, sincerity and hard work. She said that the newly admitted medical students will start with a month long foundation course which is starting this year as a novel programme and aims at orienting students to cope with their busy and challenging life as a medical student. She said that during the course experts will train them in basic medical, communication and computer skills and they will also learn how to manage time and the stress level.
She thanked Prof Moinuddin, Convener, Foundation Course and other resource persons for carving out the programme.
Prof Najam Khalique, senior faculty and member, AMU Executive Council, administered the Hippocratic Oath and urged the newly admitted students to inculcate values of dignity and conscience in them and maintain the honor and standard of the profession.
Prof S Manazir Ali, Co-coordinator, MEU, while proposing a vote of thanks, congratulated the medical fraternity on higher ranking of J N Medical College in India Today's recent ranking of medical colleges in the country. He expressed gratitude to the University administration for its continued support and help in the growth and expansion of medical college.
Prof Usha Singhal, Prof Khalid Sherwani, Prof L M Bariar and Prof Amanullah also shared memories of their student life.
Dr Bushra Siddiqui, faculty member at Department of Pathology conducted the programme.
During the programme a handbook for the benefit of the new entrants and the annual magazine of the college "Grey Matter" edited by Ms Nida Meraj, was also released. Ms Bushra Parveen Khan is the joint editor of the magazine.
