WORLD TOURISM DAY- 2015
The students of Master of Tourism Administration celebrated World Tourism Day on 31.10.15 in the department. The Vice-Chancellor, Lt. General (Retd) Zameeruddin Shah presided over the function. In his presidential remarks, he highlighted the significance of tourism industry in the national economy and expressed concern over the fact that tourism industry, although job-oriented and economically significant has not yet achieved its due place. He advised the students to learn a foreign language and learn good public speaking. The guest speaker, Mr. Qamar Zafeer, AMU alumnus, Executive Director, Le Passage to India Tour and Travels, Delhi spoke about the vast gap that exists between industrial requirements in tourism industry and the products of institutes/universities in India. Keeping in mind the enormous job prospects in this industry, he expressed his desire that his alma mater should produce ultra skilled professionals in large numbers. A presentation was delivered by Ms. Rozy Zaidi (MTA III term) highlighting the agenda of World Tourism Day as given by UNWTO. It was followed by a display of video on the same theme.
The Dean, Faculty of Commerce thanked the Vice-Chancellor for his constant support and for providing a stimulating environment for such activities. He congratulated the students for their achievement. Prof. Sheeba Hamid, Co-ordinator, World Tourism Day and TPO (MTA) also appreciated the team-spirit and event management skills of the students. She also gave them tips on attaining excellence in job.
Prizes were also given away for Essay-writing, Photography and Poster-making competitions held on the occasion of World Tourism Day. The Function was conducted by Ms. Aiman Fatima and Mr. Danish Ali (MTA III term). Ms Sehar Nafees (MTA I term) proposed vote of thanks.
