INTERNATIONAL ORAL AND MAXILLOFACIAL SURGEON¯S TO BE CELEBRATED AT DR Z A DENTAL COLLEGE ON 13th FEBRUARY,2020
The Department of and Maxillofacial Surgery, Dr. Z. A. Dental College, AligarhMuslim University will be celebrating International Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons' Day on 13th February 2020. The aim of celebration of the day is to spread awareness about this surgical specialty, which is, in fact, less known. The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon¯s Day is now celebrated all over the world. Maxillofacial surgeons treat the injuries of face, tumours of the mouth, jaws and neck, face deformities , oral cancer and birth defects like cleft lip and palate etc. In addition aesthetic and cosmetic surgery of face is also under their purview. The day is celebrated to make aware the possibilities of such surgeries and their experts. Maxillofacial surgery is an essential requirement for addressing injuries of face , deformities, tumours and aesthetic requirements of face and associated areas but it is yet to be well known to public in large. Prof. S. S. Ahmed, Chairperson , Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery told that department is rendering its services in all the areas of maxillofacial surgery and has taken big strides in this field. The department possesses highly qualified and expert team of maxillofacial surgeons, and it is well equipped with modern facilities to provide world-class treatment.
On the occasion of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon¯s day the department is organizing workshop for surgical extraction of impacted teeth, Voluntary blood donation camp, poster and photography competition and extension lecture.. Prof. S. S. Ahmed has appealed to all the teachers, students, and staff to come forward to donate the blood to save many life. . Donating blood is the most precious gift to give because it gives life to some one, and it saves more than one life when separated into its component.
WORLD CANCER DAY HELD IN DR. Z. A. DENTAL COLLEGE
Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery organized and extension lecture on the occasion of World Cancer Day on 4th February . Dr Anshuman Kumar, Director and Chief Onco-Surgeon, Dharmshila Cancer Hospital, New Delhi delivered a lecture on ¯Bridge the Gap ¯ Itz Cancer¯ . The lecture was well attended by the faculty members, residents and students of Dr Z A Dental College. Dr Anshuman discussed in detail the social and medical aspects of cancer in general and oral cancer in particular. He categorically criticized the misconception in the public about the sure shot treatment of cancers from alternative medicine and suggested patients should consult qualified professionals for proper treatment . He said that dental surgeons can help in diagnosis of oral cancers in early stages by developing awareness in the public by social activities. He also offered his services to department of Oral and Maxillofacial surgery to help poor and needy cancer patients. Prof. RK Tewari, Principal Dental College congratulated to Dr. G.S. Hashmi and Dr. Saima Yunus Khan for their significant achievements and encouraged the participants to come forward for prevention of this dreadful disease. At the end Prof. S, S. Ahmed, Chairman, Department of Oral Maxillofacial surgery extended vote of thanks to teachers, staff and residents of department for making the program a great success.
Operations for treatment of cleft lip and cleft palate and face deformities
Department of Oral and Maxillofacial surgery, Dr. Ziauddin Ahmed Dental College, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh will organize a workshop from 22 November to 6th December 2019 for treatment of Cleft Lip, Palate , and other congenital and acquired anomalies of face and nose. In this workshop those cases will be also operated who have been operated earlier and the next stage is remaining and those operated elsewhere and are unsatisfied with results. This workshop is being organized by cooperation of Interplast Germany and Aligarh Muslim University. The treatment will be given free of cost to poor and deprived patients of society. However, registration prior to treatment is mandatory which will be done on 19 th November 2019 ( Tuesday) from 9 a.m to 1:30 p.m in the OPD 5 of Dr. Ziauddin Ahmed Dental College.
AMU FACULTY DELIVERS LECTURE IN 5th UP AOMSI CONFERENCE
5th UP AOMSI conference held in Agra on 19-20 October 2019. Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery of Dr. Z. A. Dental College actively participated in the conference. The conference was well attended by the delegates and speakers from every corner of India. Dr. G. S. Hashmi , Associate Professor, was invited as keynote speaker and he delivered lecture on ¯Candylar trauma¯ and discussed his own experiences which was highly appreciated. In addition Dr. G. S. Hashmi was selected as Secretary of UP Chapter of Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons of India.
Junior Residents of department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery also participated in the conference and presented their papers. Note worthy of them is presentation of Dr. Anupriya L who presented on ¯Bilateral Traumatic superolateral dislocation of fractured candyle¯ , Dr. Anurag Varshney, who presented on ¯Massetric myocystcercosis A diagnostic challenge¯, and Dr. Ranjith presented on ¯Extra capsular dissection of pleomorphic adenoma in relation to palate¯. Dr. Anupria won first prize and Dr Anurag Varshney got 3rd prize in residents paper presentation session. Presentation of Dr. Ranjith was also well appreciated.

Hashmi for taking over the charge of office of Secretary of UP AOMSI and wished the Association and wished that UP AOMSI would touch new peaks during his term as Secretary . Dr Ahmed Congratulated Dr. Anupriya, Dr. Anurag and Dr. Ranjith for their participation for their magnificent performance and extended best wishes for bright future.
PROF. S. S. AHMED RECEIVES LIFE TIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
Prof. S. S. Ahmed, Chairman, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Dr. Ziauddin Dental College , Aligarh Muslim University has been awarded with ¯ Life Time Achievement Award¯ in the 5th UP State Conference of Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons of India held in Agra on 19-20 October 2019. The award has been given for his significant contribution in the field of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery for his academic contributions and Research. The award was delivered in inaugural function of 5th UP AOMSI Conference by Mr. Dr. Arvind Kumar Dixit , the Vice Chancellor of Dr, B. R. Ambedkar University, Agra.
After receiving the prestigious award Prof. Ahmed said, ¯ This is a great honour, and I feel humble, but at the same time I am incredibly proud too.¯ He said that this journey he did not made alone but was result of support of his colleagues , students and staff and family members.

World Cancer day was organized on 4th February 2019 with great enthusiasm in Dr. Z. A. Dental College. An Exhibition of Poster and Models was organized in the Dental College Lawn. On this Occasion a poster competition was also organized among the students of Dental College .The theme of Poster competition was Life or Cancer- Choice is yours.
The poster of Sana Musheer ,Tooba Qazi & Fatima Siddiqui was judged First, Sidra Aslam , M Aswad Was Judged Second, and the poster of Zainab Moin and Saham Khalid was judged Third
A special motivational drive for the patients visiting Dental College for educating them regarding the Prevention from Cancer was done by the BDS students and Intern of Dr. Z. A. Dental College. In the OPDs patients were motivated to avoid tobacco etc. which are responsible for causing cancer. On this occasion citrus foods were distributed to the patients.
In the afternoon Dr. Sajjad A. Rahman delivered lecture on Cancer diagnosis, prevention and treatment and Dr. Pankaj Kharade spoke on Prosthetic Rehabilitation of Cancer patients, in the conference room of Dr. Ziauddin Ahmad Dental College & Hospital.
Prof. R.K. Tewari, Prof. S.S. Ahmad, Dr. G.S. Hashmi also spoke on this occasion and emphasized the role of Dental surgeon in early diagnosis of the cancer.
Dr. G. S. Hashmi presented the latest data about the incidence of Cancer in India.
All teaching Staff, Students and non-teaching staff attended the lecture.
Prof. S.H. Hashmi, former Principal of Dr. Ziauddin Dental College , Aligarh Muslim University has been awarded with Life Time Achievement Award in 4th UP State Conference of Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons of India held in K.N. Udupa Audiorium, Banaras Hindu University, Varansai on 8th December 2018. The award was given for his significant contribution in the field of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery including promotion of Dental Education , Research and establishing Dental College in Aligarh Muslim University. The award was delivered in Uduppa Auditorium by the Vice Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University Prof. Rakesh Bhatnagar in large august gathering .

Prof. Hashmi is credited for raising the unit of Dental Surgery, in the Department of General Surgery, of JN Medical College to Dr. Ziauddin Ahmed Dental College, which is now a institute not only national but international repute too.
AMU FACULTY DELIVERED LECTURE
Dr. Z.A. Dental College¯s professor, Dr. S. S. Ahmed was invited speaker at Workshop on maxillofacial trauma and implnatology organized by DELHI NCR STATE CHAPTER OF Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons of India held on 3rd July 2016 at New Delhi. Dr. Ahmad who is a professor at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in AMU lectured on ¯ Role of miroplates in mandibular fractures¯
In his lecture, Prof. Ahmed discussed the evolution of fixation system and presented his research findings in detail and highlighted how microplates could be an effective means of fixation in the treatment fractures of mandible. He presented his research data which were obtained after Finite element analysis done by Prof. Abid Ali Khan, Prof. Omar Farooq and Mr. Siddharth at Z.H. College of Engineering of Aligarh Muslim University. With the help of impressive videographic findings he demonstrated that microplates were suitable to replace the existing miniplates in mandibular fractures. His lecture was highly inspiring to the researchers, young professionals and postgraduate students.
Dr. Ahmed was among one of invited speakers from various parts of country.
His lecture was very well attended and appreciated by all. Dr Ahmed has earlier been also invited speaker in many national and international conferences and is recipient of international fellowships and scholarships.
CLINICAL TRAINING PROGRAM ORGANISED
The dept. of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery organised three months clinical training program scheduled 1st February-30th April 2016. . According to Dr. Sarwar Hashmi, chairperson, the program was specially designed for young & budding Dental surgeons who have limited clinical exposure. Prof. R. K. Tewari, Principal, Dr. Z. A. Dental College congratulated the participant & distributed the certificate of appreciation to the trainees who have successfully completed three months program. Dr. Hashmi also welcomed the newly admitted batch will start from 1st May 2016 & acknowledge the presence of Prof. S S Ahmed, Dr. Shadab M Rizvi, Dr. Sajjad A Rahman, Dr. Kalim Ansari & Residents of the department.

WORLD ORAL & MAXILLOFACIAL SURGEONS DAY celebrated in the department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, DR. Z. A. DENTAL COLLEGE, ALIGARH MUSLIM UNIVERSITY. This day is celebrated on the mark of first meeting of international association that was held 13th February 1969. The program started with free screening of Oral Cancer patients at dental college premises along with the poster presentation at conference Hall. Out of 16 students, Miss Sabiha Naaz & Nishat Shamim awarded the best poster for oral cancers. Principal Prof. R K Tewari welcomed the Guest & congratulated the chairman, dept. of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery for organizing OMFS Day. Dr. Hashmi conveyed thanks to Prof. Shahid Siddiqui & Prof. Afshan Bey for judging the posters. The celebration was graced by Prof. s s ahmed, Dr. Shadab m rizvi, Dr. Sajjad A Rehman, Dr. Pankaj & residents of the dept. of Oral & maxillofacial surgery.
The Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons of India (AOMSI) is celebrating February 13 as the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons Day to commemorate the 1st meeting of AOMSI held on this date in the year 1969.
Oral and maxillofacial surgery is a branch of surgery to correct a wide spectrum of diseases, injuries and defects in the head, neck, face, jaws and the hard and soft tissues of the oral and maxillofacial region
On 18th OCTOBER 2016
The 2nd Annual conference of Association of Oral & Maxillofacial surgeons of India (UP Chapter) was organized by the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery between 24th-25th September 2016. The conference was a huge success with a record highest number of delegate registrations at a state level.
Honourable Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University was the chief guest during the inauguration ceremony. Honourable Pro Vice Chancellor Brig. (Retd.) Syed Ahmed Ali and National president of Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Dr. David Tauro were the Guest of Honour.
The conference began with a welcome speech by the Organizing Secretary, Dr. G. S. Hashmi. & principal Dental College Prof. R. K. Tewari. After the inauguration ceremony, a cultural event was also organized which kept the audience mesmerised till a marvellous dinner was served in the premises of Dr. Ziauddin Ahmed Dental College lawn.
Notable Speakers of National and International repute from all over India like Dr. Saidul Islam (number one microvascular surgeon of the country) Dr. David P Tauro (President Association of Oral & Maxillofacial surgeon of India) Prof. Dhirendra Srivastava, Prof. Shadab Mohammad, Prof. Divya Mehrotra, Dr. Kannan Balaraman attended the conference and shared their experiences in different arena of maxillofacial surgery with the delegates in their keynote lectures.
Two preconference workshops were organized which saw 100% attendance and the delegates attending the courses went home with new set of skills up their sleeves. The first preconference course was the launching of COMPREHENSIVE CARDIAC ARREST RESUUSCITATION COURSE by INDO-US emergency & trauma and it is certified by Academic College of emergency expert. This course is launched first time in India & Aligarh Muslim University provided the platform for that programme. All credit goes to Prof. Syed Moied Ahmed & his team specially Prof. Sanjeev Bhoi, Additional Professor, Emergency medicine, Trauma Centre, AIIMS New Delhi. We would also thanks to Prof. Amanullah Khan Sb. Dean Faculty of Medicine for inaugurating this workshop.
The second workshop was conducted by Dr. Saidul Islam on Microvascular Anastomosis. Huge response all over the country.
The conference ends on 25th September, 2016 with a closing note of the president, Association of Oral & maxillofacial surgeons of India, UP Chapter.
Finite Element Analysis (FEA) of Perpendicular Plating Versus Conventional Plating in Mandibular Symphysis Fracture
Professor S. S. Ahmed attended National Symposium on Oral Cancer
Dr. S.S. Ahmed, Professor in Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Dr. Ziauddin Ahmed Dental College, Aligarh Muslim University was invited to participate in the National Symposium on Oral Cancer. Organized by Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology, Bangalore held on 7th and 8th November 2015. He actively participated in the scientific deliberations in the symposium and Chaired a scientific session in which reputed researchers and clinicians presented their research papers pertaining to epidemiology and challenges of prevention and management of Oral Cancers. It was discussed that even though the oral cavity is accessible for visual examination, and oral cancers and premalignant lesions have well-defined clinical diagnostic characteristics, oral cancers are typically detected in advanced stages. In India, 60¯80% of patients present with advanced disease. Early detection of the disease is very important as it would not only improve the cure rate, but would also reduce the cost and morbidity associated with treatment. Dr Ahmed is recipient of many international scholarships and fellowships and he is the President of UP Chapter, Association of Oral and maxillofacial Surgeons of India.

Ahmed, Professor in Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Dr.Ziauddin Ahmed Dental College, Aligarh Muslim University has been awarded with membership of Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, U.K. and is first in the Dental College to receive MFDS RCPS ( Glasg); He has also been invited to attend welcome ceremony to be held at Glasgow, UK. This award is given to professionals specializing in particular area to achieve the highest possible standards of care for their patients and have made substantial contributions to their specialty through published works and attainments.
Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow recognizes clinical achievements and is a leading professional body for dental health care professionals in the world and sets standards for the highest levels of international dental practice.
Dr Ahmed is recipient of many international scholarships and fellowships. He has been invited speaker in national and international conferences and published research papers in reputed journals.
