A Brief Introduction to Public Relations Office

The Public Relations Office is the face through which the rest of the country recognizes the Aligarh Muslim University. It is through this office that the image of this historic institution is projected not only in the country but throughout the world.
The successes and achievements of the AMU community members have always served as an impetus to the youth of the country and it is pertinent to publish the news of such achievements on national and international level for their greater impact. The academic standard in a University is also gauged by the achievements of its faculty members including the research work. This objective is achieved through publication of research papers in leading journals at the national and international level and their participation in conferences, seminars, symposia and workshops.
It is the job of the Public Relations Office to persuade the national and local media to pay attention to the activities of the faculty and highlight the academic, literary, cultural and sports achievements. It is the prime duty of the PR office to make all efforts to develop and strengthen a healthy, positive and productive relationship with the electronic and print media in order to garner their support for the most positive portrayal of the University.
The Public Relations Office is also entrusted with the job of providing media coverage of all the programmes that are organized at the University campus by different departments and offices. The media coverage includes the preparation of press releases in English, Hindi and Urdu languages and their further transmission to the newspapers and online media along with concerned photographs. It makes arrangements for photography and videography of events and occasions and maintains a record of newspaper clippings gathered from about fifty newspapers received in this office every day.
It is the responsibility of this office to provide guidance to the visiting guests, delegations and dignitaries and respond to their queries regarding the activities of the institution. The office supports the University's internal and external communication services and contributes to the fulfillment of the University's mission and objectives.
This Office also has a role in producing various types of introductory literature in print and electronic forms and provide information about the University to common people, visitors and delegations. Occasionally, it is also entrusted with the organization and management of selected events and programmes in the University.
The Public Relations Office has the archival material and photographs relating to the University in digital format.
This office also publishes the "Aligarh Muslim University Gazette", an organ of the University which originated as the Aligarh Institute Gazette, launched by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan in 1866. This official organ promotes values and achievements to foster a sense of pride in belonging to the University.
It is through this office that visitors to this great seat of learning are introduced to the past glory and present achievements of this institution. Some of the rarest records including photographs of all historic events and achievementsa have been maintained through painstaking efforts during the past two decades.
