Aligarh, February 24: A comprehensive workshop on “Mental Health and Well-being” was organised at the University Women’s Polytechnic, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), to promote awareness about emotional resilience and psychological wellness among students and staff. The programme was held under the leadership of Dr.Salma Shaheen, Principal and Convener, with Savita Gautam serving as Co-Convener, reflecting the institution’s continued commitment to holistic education and student support.

The workshop featured noted resource person Dr.Nasheed Imtiaz, Coordinator of the Students’ Counselling Centre, AMU, accompanied by her team member Dr.Eisha Rahman, Assistant Coordinator.

In her expert address, Dr. Imtiaz presented a detailed understanding of mental health, discussing common stressors affecting youth and sharing practical coping strategies for balancing academic responsibilities and personal well-being. An engaging catharsis activity conducted by Ms. Hadiya and Ms. Alina used symbolic balloons to demonstrate the impact of suppressed emotions, leaving participants reflective and energized.

In her welcome address, Dr.Salma Shaheenemphasized that mental health is as vital as physical health in today’s fast-paced academic environment. She encouraged students to speak openly about their concerns, seek guidance without hesitation, and support one another in building a compassionate campus culture. She noted that emotional strength, self-awareness, and resilience are essential life skills to achieve goals, and grow into confident individuals capable of contributing positively to society.

A session titled “Know Your Strengths and Affirmations,” led by Ms. Uzma, encouraged students to recognize their abilities and nurture positive self-belief, while Ms. Madiha guided a calming Guided Imagery exercise that introduced visualization techniques for relaxation and inner balance. Dr. Eisha Rahman later conducted a practical segment on grounding methods to manage anxiety and remain focused during challenging situations.

Expressing gratitude, Dr. Gautam thanked the counseling. Participants described the workshop as enlightening and empowering, noting that it equipped them with practical tools to handle stress, build confidence, and approach their academic journeys with clarity, resilience, and optimism.

The initiative reflects AMU’s dedication to nurturing emotionally strong learners through awareness, dialogue, and professional guidance.

Aligarh, February 9:The Women’s Polytechnic, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), organised a three-day workshop titled “The Art of Crochet” from February 5 to 7, 2026, aimed at nurturing creativity, patience, and craftsmanship while imparting practical skills aligned with contemporary fashion and home décor trends.

Inaugurating the workshop, Dr. Salma Shaheen, Principal, Women’s Polytechnic, highlighted the relevance of traditional crafts in today’s creative economy. “Crochet is not only a form of artistic expression but also a viable skill that can open avenues for self-employment and entrepreneurship when adapted to modern design sensibilities,” she remarked.

Around 20 participants, including students and faculty members from the Costume Design & Dress Making (CD&DM) Section, actively engaged in the hands-on sessions. The workshop was conducted by Mrs. Ruhi Siddique, who introduced participants to essential crochet tools, yarn varieties, and fundamental stitches before advancing to complex patterns, motif creation, joining techniques, and the production of finished items such as coasters, flowers, toys, key rings, jewellery, and decorative décor. Each participant completed more than ten crochet projects by the end of the programme.

Speaking on the academic value of the workshop, Dr.Sheeba Manzoor, OSD, CD&DM Section and Co-Convener, stated, “Skill-oriented workshops like this bridge the gap between classroom learning and practical application, enabling students to explore creativity while gaining industry-relevant competencies.”

The programme concluded with an exhibition of the participants’ handmade crochet creations, fostering appreciation for individual craftsmanship. An interactive feedback session reflected strong enthusiasm for advanced training and specialised crochet courses in the future. Certificates of participation were distributed to all attendees.

The workshop was convened by Dr. Salma Shaheen, with Dr.Sheeba Manzoor as Co-Convener. Ms. Sadia Naim, Organising Secretary, coordinated the programme with the support of committee members Ms. Fauzia Khan and Ms. Ikra Salim.

Aligarh, September 23:  Showcasing academic excellence and innovative thinking, Ms. Ismat Naqvi and Ms. Rashi Varshney, final-year Diploma students of Electronics Engineering, University Women’s Polytechnic, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), secured the Second Prize in the prestigious One-Slide Presentation CompetitionattheStudent Research Symposium 2025 (SRS’25).

The symposium, jointly organized by IIT Indore, the IEEE Madhya Pradesh Section, the Hybrid Nanodevice Research Group (HNRG), and the IEEE Sensors Council, was held online on September 15–16, 2025.

Guided by their faculty mentor, Dr. Mohd Shahbaz Hussain, the students presented their project, “IoT-Based Monitoring and Controlling of the Greenhouse Effect,” which impressed the jury with its innovation and clarity of presentation. The project stood out among seventy participantsfrom premier institutions including IITs, NITs, and VITs, earning the AMU students national recognition.

Congratulating the achievers, Dr. Salma Shaheen, Principal of University Women’s Polytechnic, lauded their outstanding performance. She also acknowledged the valuable mentorship of Dr. Mohd Shahbaz Hussain, Faculty Advisor of the Women’s Polytechnic RoboClub, and Dr. Mohd Shahnawazuddin, Section In-Charge, Electronics Engineering, for their constant guidance and support.

ALIGARH, August 20: The University Women’s Polytechnic, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), organized an Anti-Ragging Awareness Programme aimed at sensitizing students about the harmful effects of ragging and to promote a safe and respectful campus environment.

The programme featured interactive sessions in which students learned about the meaning of ragging, its adverse impact, and the serious consequences it entails. They were also encouraged to stand up against bullying and harassment. At the conclusion of the event, students took a pledge to say “No to Ragging” and to extend support to any potential victim.

Addressing the students, Dr. Sheeba Manzoor, Convener of the programme, reaffirmed the Polytechnic’s commitment to ensuring a safe, inclusive, and ragging-free environment. The names of the Anti-Ragging Committee members were also prominently displayed.

The sessions helped students gain awareness and confidence in handling such situations, while also highlighting the support mechanisms available on campus. Details of the National Anti-Ragging Helpline (1800-180-5522) and AMU’s Anti-Ragging Helpline numbers were shared with the participants.

ALIGARH, August 8: The Women’s Polytechnic, Aligarh Muslim University, successfully conducted a university-level round of the UN@80 Stamp Design Challenge, a national initiative by MyGov, the Department of Posts, and the Ministry of External Affairs (UN Political Division).

Dr. Salma Shaheen, Principal, Women’s Polytechnic, encouraged students to explore the theme “UN@80 and India’s leadership in building our future through multilateralism, global leadership, and stewardship,” and commended their creative engagement with this nationally significant event.

Seventeen students from various sections participated enthusiastically, each submitting an original stamp design in accordance with official guidelines. The entries were evaluated on artistic merit, thematic relevance, and execution by a panel of judges comprising Dr. Savita Gautam, Dr. Md. Amir Baig, and Ms. Ikra Salim. The top six designs were selected for recognition.

ALIGARH, May 1: As part of the 100-day countdown to International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2025, the University Women’s Polytechnic, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), organized a series of activities under the theme “Promoting Yoga Awareness” to foster interest, understanding, and engagement with yoga practices among students and staff.

Three signature activities were conducted during the countdown period to highlight different aspects of yoga.

A Yoga Quiz was held to test participants’ knowledge of yoga philosophy, various asanas, and the benefits of yoga in promoting physical and mental well-being. Thirty students participated in this intellectually stimulating event, which helped deepen their understanding of yoga principles.

Later, a Yoga Video Showcasing session introduced participants to a diverse range of yoga styles and practices through a curated selection of videos. The screening inspired appreciation for yoga’s rich traditions and the global relevance of its various forms.

The series concluded with a practical Yoga Practice Session at the Polytechnic ground. Conducted by instructor Ms. Farha, the session saw active participation from around 40 students and staff. Participants experienced the calming and rejuvenating effects of yoga, reporting improved relaxation and a stronger sense of mind-body connection.

The initiative was led by Dr. Salma Shaheen, Principal of University Women’s Polytechnic and Convener of the programme, along with Dr. Sheeba Manzoor as Co-convener. The organizing team included Ms. Sadia Naim, Ms. Fauzia Khan, Ms. Ikra Salim, and Mrs. Amrah Maryam, who ensured smooth coordination and successful execution of the events.

The activities served as a comprehensive platform to engage participants intellectually, visually, and physically, creating a well-rounded prelude to the International Day of Yoga 2025, to be celebrated on June 21.

Aligarh, March 12: Ms. Harleen Kaur and Ms. Prachi Singh, second-year Diploma students of Electronics Engineering at University Women’s Polytechnic, AMU, have won the Best Presentation Award and a cash prize at AETHER 2025. They were guided by Dr. Shahbaz Hussain.

The science symposium, held from February 25-27 was organized by Olympia Academia – WC Team under the American Physical Society at Women’s College, AMU.

Their project, "Advancement of Semiconductors Beyond Silicon," explores new circuit design techniques for analog and digital systems. It focuses on emerging technologies like GaN, CNFETs, Spintronics, and NCFETs, which improve high-speed computing, energy efficiency, and memory systems.

Prof. Salma Shaheen, Principal, University Women’s Polytechnic, lauded the students, stating, “Their dedication and innovative approach reflect the high standards of academic excellence at AMU. Their success is a source of immense pride for the institution.”

Aligarh, February 25: The University Women's Polytechnic, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), conducted a two-day Hands-on Training on "Python and AI/ML", aimed at empowering women students with cutting-edge technological skills. The training focused on equipping participants with practical knowledge of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML), preparing them for emerging opportunities in the fast-evolving job market.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. (Mrs.) Salma Shaheen, Principal, University Women’s Polytechnic, emphasized, “With AI and ML becoming the backbone of technological advancements, it is imperative for women to master these skills and carve a niche for themselves in the industry. This initiative is designed to bridge the gender gap in technology and enhance self-reliance among our students.”

The training featured Dr. Junaid Ali Reshi, Assistant Professor, Interdisciplinary Centre for Artificial Intelligence, ZHCET, AMU; Mr. Athar Ali, Senior Research Fellow (SRF), IIT Roorkee; and Ms. Ayesha Bano & Ms. Rabiya Hasan Lari, B.Tech (3rd Year) students, ZHCET, as resource persons. They conducted interactive sessions on image processing, audio processing, and text processing using AI/ML.

Over 65 women students actively participated, gaining hands-on experience in AI/ML applications. Dr. Mohd Ajmal Kafeel, Convener, highlighted the increasing market demand for AI/ML expertise, urging students to seize career opportunities in this field. Dr. Shahbaz Hussain, Co-Convener, extended the vote of thanks.

The event was attended by Dr. Shahnawaz Uddin, Dr. Amir Baig, Mr. Mohd Kashif, Ms. Nazia Hafeez, and Mr. Alhamd, who contributed to the execution of the program.

ALIGARH February 24: The Aligarh Muslim University Women's Polytechnic hosted its four-day annual fest, CALIX'25, marking a historic milestone with the introduction of a music concert alongside a diverse range of stalls and engaging events.

The fest featured an array of food and customized product stalls, including live sketching, face painting, jewellery, and crafts, contributing to the vibrant atmosphere of the polytechnic. Various extracurricular and technical events took centre stage, such as the Technical Projects Showcase, Coding Competition, Ideathon, Chess, Gaming, Henna Competition, Poetry, Singing, Quiz, and Food Without Fire competitions.

Additionally, sports events like Kabaddi, Kho Kho, and the Three-Legged Race saw enthusiastic participation from students, as well as teaching and non-teaching staff, fostering a spirit of inclusivity and teamwork.

The event was led under the guidance of In-charge Dr. Sheeba Kamal and Dr. Savita Gautam, with Bushra Yusuf serving as the President. The Principal of Women's Polytechnic, Dr. Salma Shaheen, extended her support and encouragement to the organizing committee. Two accomplished alumnae, Mrs. Naghma Tabassum, Senior Deputy Collector, West Champaran, Bihar, and Mrs. Bushra Sabir, a PhD scholar in Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) associated with Enedym, Canada, shared their insights on career opportunities and global education prospects.

Mrs. Naghma Tabassum highlighted the vast career options available to engineering graduates beyond traditional roles. She encouraged students to leverage their technical knowledge, acquire new skills, and explore diverse career paths, including civil services and other leadership roles. She emphasized that strong alumni engagement plays a vital role in enhancing students’ employability and career prospects.

Mrs. Bushra Sabir spoke about the advantages of pursuing higher education abroad, emphasizing the value of a globally integrated learning system that blends classroom education with practical industry experience.
