Dr. Nabi Hasan is the University Librarian at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), one of India's oldest, leading and multi-disciplinary central government institutions established in 1920. He is heading Asia?s second largest and India?s largest library system, having 110+ campus libraries. Prior to this, he was Sr. Deputy Librarian in the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. He has earlier served as Deputy Librarian and a Regular Post Graduate Faculty at Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University, Palampur (HP), India.
He was the "FIRST BORLAUG FELLOW FROM INDIA" in Library Information Systems at Cornell University, New York, USA. Dr. Hasan is the recipient of the "VICE-CHANCELLOR APPRECIATION AWARD 2003" for Exemplary Work and Conduct. He has received "APPRECIATION FROM THE CHAIRMAN, BOARD OF GOVERNORS, IIT DELHI" in 2012 and has also been conferred with the "LIFE TIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD 2015" for Extraordinary Services and Dedication towards Library Science.
He is the permanent member of AMU Court, the highest governing body of the AMU and is also the member of Academic Council, University Website Committee, Committee to Monitor Academic Progression & University Ranking, Innovation Council & University Incubation Centre, apart from other important committees and bodies.
Dr. Hasan has an experience of 23 years' of active library services and post graduate teaching. He has published 12 Books/composite Books and has over 118 papers/articles in reputed journals, conferences, composite books, etc.
Dr. Hasan is currently the Director - Special Libraries Association (SLA-USA), Asian Chapter, Vice-President ? Indian Association of Special Libraries and Information Centres (IASLIC), Joint Secretary of the Asian Library Association (ASIALA), Executive Committee Member of Delhi Library Association, Member, Ministry of Earth Sciences e-Journal Consortium, Govt. of India, etc.
He has won the many "BEST PAPER PRESENTATION AWARDS" at national and international level events. Dr. Hasan has successfully implemented "3 WORLD BANK AIDED NATP/NAIP/ICAR PROJECTS" on Library Automation, Digitization, Institutional Repositories, Digital Library, Networking, etc. He has significantly contributed in CeRA, KrishiPrabha, eGranth, INDEST, N-LIST, etc. Projects of Govt. of India in different capacities.
After joining the AMU as its regular University Librarian on April 1, 2016; Dr Hasan has significantly contributed for the system which include; Creation of River Ganga Repository, New Digital Resources Centre, Oriental Division, Library Museum, PG Reading Hall, etc. He has hosted many International/National level events on Academic Integrity, Plagiarism, Author Workshops, Librarians Day, Annual Library Day, Staff Recharge Programs, Week long Workshops, etc. He has also compiled and published Library Hand Book, started eNewsclipping Services, academic and scholarly motivation programs for the professional staff, organized Exhibitions on all the important occasions, etc. The LIBRARY MUSEUM that he created was inaugurated by Dr. Frank F. Islam, former Advisor to the US President Barack Obama on 12th February 2017.
His main focus now is on strengthening of library resources, services and products for the users and bringing together of people and services of the system libraries with improved facilities and access including remote access.
