(Amendment) Act, 1972], obtained the approval of the Visitor (the President of the Indian Republic), and established its Kishanganj Centre in 2013, vide Govt. of India (MHRD) letter no. F.3-9/2008-Desk (U), dated 27 April 2010, and F.3-9/2008-Desk (U), dated 31 October 2012, adopted and ratified by the AMU Executive Council (EC) meeting, Statute 36, item no. 20, dated 10 October 2013.
The first batch of B. Ed. with One Year Program (60 seats) was started in November 2013 and two batches passed out under this scheme. According to the latest NCTE Regulations, the new batches are being offered Two Years B.Ed Program with an intake of 50 students for each batch. Apart from B.Ed, the Centre offers Two Years full time MBA Program. The first batch of MBA (60 seats) started in 2014 and One batch of MBA (Session 2014-16) has been passed out from the Centre till now. The Centre is located in Kishanganj (Bihar) which happens to be one of the most backward districts of India in terms of education and in almost every other index of human development (HDI).
The Government of Bihar has provided it with a land of 224.02 acres, Plot nos. 22, 23, 124, 125, 126, 353, 354, 355, 357, 358, and 360; Khasra nos. 384, and 40, in the mauza Chakla and Govindpur, Kishanganj (Bihar), on the bank of the river Mahananda. The Govt. of Bihar handed over the land proprietorship to the AMU, free of cost; vide letter no. 1265 (6)/Ra, dated 01 December 2011.
The boundary wall construction work stands almost completed by the HSCL (a Govt. of India body). It is going to be a single-integrated campus, as the plots are not scattered.
It is well connected with road (NH 31), railways, and airport networks. It lies 100 kms South-West of Siliguri-Bagdogra (West Bengal) airport.
The Centre is presently running in the rent-free buildings provided by the Govt. of Bihar (vide letter no. 835/C, dated 06 July 2013, duly signed by the District Magistrate, Aditya Kumar Das), viz., the Boys' Minority Hostel, and the Girls' Minority Hostel, at Halim Chowk, Purana Khagra, Kishanganj. These buildings are used as Academic Complex, Administrative Complex, Library, and hostels for the boys and girls.
The AMU Kishanganj Centre, a fully residential one, is carrying forward the great legacy and inclusive and pluralist cultural ethos of the Aligarh Muslim University, which came out of a 'renaissance' of the 19th century. It stands for nation-building by making education accessible to the educationally, economically (and therefore socially too) backward communities, at their affordable cost.
Depending upon the commitment and generosity of the Union Government, the AMU Kishanganj Centre strives to add three departments of studies and research every year, which would go a long way in its expansion. Besides, the Centre is grateful to and hopeful from the globally spread alumni of the AMU who are coming forward to contribute towards its development in several ways.
