About the University
Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has 12 Faculties including Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Engineering & Technology, Medicine, Arts, Commerce and Law, each comprising of several Departments of Studies. The University draws students from all corners of the country as well as foreign countries, especially Africa, West Asia and Southeast Asia. Maulana Azad Library, the central library of the university, is world famous for its invaluable collections of manuscripts and rare books available in oriental languages. The university, an Institution of National importance (Seventh Schedule, Article 246 of the Indian Constitution), has been ranked 3rd among Indian Universities (Times Higher Education, Asia Ranking 2014).
About the Department
The department of Applied Sciences was established in 1958 in the Faculty of Engineering and Technology which was later split into three sections namely, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. In January 1988, the Mathematics section was upgraded to Department of Applied Mathematics.
Apart from teaching mathematics courses to engineering students at graduate and post graduate level, the department runs full time M. Phil and PhD Programs in various specializations such as mentioned in the scope of the conference.
