Revised Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs)

B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) Five-Year Integrated Degree Programme

The B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) Five-Year Integrated Degree Programme seeks to prepare graduates who, after completion of the programme, shall be able to pursue the following broad educational and professional objectives:

PEO1. Legal and Interdisciplinary Foundation

To develop graduates with a strong foundation in law and allied social sciences, enabling them to understand the origins, purposes, meanings and limits of law in its constitutional, social, political, economic, historical and cultural contexts.

PEO2. Ethical Professional Competence

To prepare graduates for ethical, competent and responsible participation in the legal profession and allied legal careers, including advocacy, judicial services, legal advisory work, corporate and regulatory practice, public service and other professional fields where legal knowledge is required.

PEO3. Constitutional Values and Social Justice

To cultivate in graduates a commitment to constitutional values, rule of law, social justice, legal aid, legal awareness, community outreach and access to justice. Special attention is to be given to marginalised and disadvantaged sections of society.

PEO4. Research, Higher Studies and Lifelong Learning

To encourage graduates to take up legal research, higher studies, teaching, policy work and continuous professional development. They should develop critical inquiry, independent learning and the ability to respond to legal reforms and changing socio-legal needs.

PEO5. Contemporary, Global and Emerging Legal Contexts

To enable graduates to respond to contemporary, comparative, transnational and emerging legal developments. These include legal technology, commercial regulation, human rights, environmental concerns, gender justice and other developing areas of law.

LL.M Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs

PEO 1: Advanced and Specialised Legal Education

To provide students with advanced understanding of legal principles, theories, institutions and processes, along with specialised knowledge in selected areas such as Criminal Law, Constitutional Law, Commercial Law, Family Law and Labour Law, enabling them to engage critically with complex legal issues at national and international levels. 

PEO 2: Research, Legal Writing and Knowledge Generation

To develop strong legal research aptitude, analytical reasoning, academic writing and methodological competence, including doctrinal, comparative, interdisciplinary, empirical and quantitative approaches, so that students may undertake independent research and contribute to the generation and application of new legal knowledge. 

PEO 3: Academic, Professional and Social Justice Orientation

To prepare students for careers in legal academics, research, legal practice, judicial services, civil and state services, law offices, corporate legal sectors, public institutions and policy-oriented organisations, while promoting professional ethics, constitutional values, leadership, cultural competence, lifelong learning and commitment to social justice.
