Dr. Aftab Alam is Associate Professor, in the Department of Political Science, at Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh. He did his MA, P.Phil, Ph.D. in Political Science from Aligarh Muslim University and LLM in International Human Rights Law from University of Essex, U.K. He was recipient of prestigious Chevening Scholarship of British Govt. He specializes in the area of Human rights, International Relations and International Law. He was also an attendee of Summer Course of Hague Academy of International Law. He served as member of Executive Council, Indian Society of International Law, New Delhi. He is on the editorial board of the Indian Journal of International Law and ISIL Yarbook on International Humanitarian and Refugee Law.
Dr. Alam has more than 13 years of teaching and research experience. He has supervised/supervising several M.Phil dissertations and Ph.D thesises, mostly in the area of Human Rights and international relations. He is currently engaged on UGC sponsored Major Research Project on Educational Rights of Minorities. He has participated and presented papers in large number of International and National Conferences/Seminars. He has delivered lectures at UGC Academic Staff Colleges on various topics of Human Rights.
He has authored/ edited six books and published more than 50 research papers and articles in prestigious journals in the areas of human rights, international law and international politics. He has also contributed chapters in the edited volumes. He was commissioned by the International Committee of the Red Cross to write an introductory book on International Humanitarian Law. His book on His book on Human Rights in India has been well received.
