Prof. Shafey Kidwai has been teaching communication sudies, film studies, Broadcast journalsim, Editing, sports journalsim and urdu Journalsim for more than 30 years. His recent book titled, Urdu Literature and Journalism : Critical Perspectives published by the Cambridge University Press, has received widespread critical acclaim.
His column on culture and literature Going Native appears in Friday Review, the Hindu. fortnightly
His research dissertation Cementing Ethics with Modernism: An Appraisal of the Sir Sayyid's Periodicals (2009) is considered as one of the substantial works on the nineteenth century journalism. He has prepared the 'Style Book'(2002) for the ETV, Hyderabad and 'Glossary of Mass Communication in Urdu'(2003) for NCPUL, New Delhi.
He has been on the editorial board of several peer He review journal including Global Media published bythe university of Purdue USA and Calcutta University.
His New Book SIRSYED:A Life Beyond Reconciliation" has been accepted by a reputed publisher and it will appear to mark the bicentenary of Sirsyed.
His Urdu books 'Fiction Motaleyat: Ma-baad-e-Jadeed Tanazur'(2011) and 'Meeraji'(Monograph, Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi/2001) are well discussed among reviewers and appreciated by readers. The Academy of Letters, New Delhi has published his monograph on R.K. Narayan in 2009. He has translated many books from English into Urdu: 'Michal Madhusudan Dutt (Sahitya Academi, New Delhi/1995) and 'Our Constitution' (National Book Trust, New Delhi/2009). His book 'Khabar Nigari'(1988) is the fist book on the art of reporting in Urdu .
His visited England, Qatar, Syria, Thailand and Pakistan where he presented his papers. He is the member of highest governing body -general council of the Indian academy of Letters, Sahitya Akademi and National Council for promotion OF Urdu Ministry of HRD, govt of India. presently he also serves as the Convener of the Urdu Committee, Bhartiya Jnnanpith, New Delhi, He has contributed more than seventy research papers and participated in more than one hundred international and national seminars and workshops.
His profound interest in literary theories and cultural discourses and his writings fetched him many invitations to attend literary festivals and has become a regular participants of festivals being organised at Goa, Chennai, Lucknow and Kishan Gunj etc.
