Prof. Tariq Mansoor is the Vice-Chancellor, Aligarh Muslim University- a historic seat of learning established in 1920 by Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, the great social reformer of 19 century India. Born in a family of eminent academicians, he was earlier the Principal of Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Head of Department of Surgery. A surgeon by profession with more than 3 decades of teaching, research and clinical experience, he has around 90 publications to his credit and supervised thesis of more than 50 Postgraduate Medical Students.
He is a Member of the Medical Council of India- the apex regulator of medical education and profession in India, and sits on the Board of Governors of Indian Institute of Management (Lucknow), Governing Body, Maulana Azad Education Foundation (Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India) and National Monitoring Committee for Minorities Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.
He was elected President of the Association of Surgeons of India, Uttar Pradesh and Secretary of Aligarh Muslim University Teachers? Association and thrice as Member of Executive Council of Aligarh Muslim University representing the teachers.
He was conferred with ?Sir Syed Life Time Achievement Award for Public Services 2017? by Aligarh Medical Alumni Association of North America, USA for his distinguished services to the Aligarh Muslim University and is a recipient of "Eminent Senior Surgical Teacher Award 2013? by Association of Surgeons of India.
He regularly sits on selection panels of teaching staff in various Indian Universities and has served as an assessor for the Union Public Service Commission.
Prof Mansoor has travelled widely and visited important educational and cultural institutions in North America, Europe, West Asia and Africa. A keen tennis player, he has reading interests in education, culture, international affairs and politics.
