Dr. Arafat Zafar, Presently working as Associate Professor in the Department , has obtained his M. A., M. Phil. and Ph. D. degrees from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He has completed B. A. (Hons) course in Arabic from Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi with English Literature, Political Science and Indian Religions and Culture. He has earned the degree of Diploma in Modern Arabic and Advance Diploma in Modern Arabic Language and Translation from JMI, New Delhi. He has attained his basic education from Madrasa Al -Islah, a famous Islamic seminary situated in Azamgarh, UP. He received " Shah Waliullah Dehlawi Gold Medal " for securing 1st position with distinction in B. A. (H) Arabic examination. He has qualified NET and was selected for JRF, awarded by UGC, GOI.
He has worked as Translator -cum- Interpreter in the embassy of Saudi Arabia in New Delhi. Before joining AMU at Aligarh, he served the University of Lucknow as Assistant Professor from 2007 up to 2019.
His area of interest includes Saudi Literature, Indo-Arab Literature and Translation. He has produced a good research work entitled : "Contribution of Maulana Hamiduddin Farahi to Arabic Literature ". He has two published books in Arabic. He has written more than sixty articles and research papers on various aspects of Arabic Literature and Islamic Sciences in Arabic, English and Urdu languages, which have been published in the reputed journals of India and abroad. He has contributed several chapters in different volumes of culture and literature. Apart from that, he has participated and presented papers in more than thirty five national and international seminars and conferences held in India and abroad. So far five students have successfully completed their research work under his supervision. He has delivered lectures on a range of topics related to Arabic language, Arab culture and issues of social and national relevance in colleges and institutions. He is associated with several academic and literary bodies such as he is honorary member of well-known Quranic academy " Idara Uloom al- Quran", Aligarh, India. He is member of advisory board of e- Journal "Naqeebul - Hind". He is also member of editorial board of Journal of Indian Academy of Arabic, AMU, Aligarh. Besides, he has been engaged as examiner and paper-setter in major Indian universities. He has visited Malaysia and Saudi Arabia for academic purposes. Furthermore he actively participates in the academic activities of the department and contributes to the corporate life of the university.
