About the Department
The Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery was created from department of surgery on 30th October 2012. Since its creation the department is functioning independently and doing all types of cardiac, thoracic and vascular surgery .In 2016 October open heart surgery has also started and regularly all kinds of adult and pediatric cardiac surgeries are being done.We are the only centre in western Uttar Pradesh doing Pediatric Cardiac surgery and Vascular surgery .Over the years our faculty has become experienced in doing complex cardiac and vascular surgeries,another field of our expertise is foreign body retrievals from esophagus and bronchus. We are providing teaching and training to undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as we are involved in training of paramedical students like Diploma in Operation theatre management,Diploma in endoscopy management , and Diploma in Physiotherapy. We have applied for starting MCh cardiothoracic course from session 2018-19.
We have expanded our repertoire of surgery and recently started thoracoscopy and complex peripheral bypass surgery in patients of buerger's disease with good results.very soon we plan to start video assisted thoracic surgery (VATS).We have OPD's on Tuesday and Friday ,annually we have footfall of 3000 patients in Out Patient Department (OPD) and . Our elective Operation Theatre's are scheduled on Wednesday, thursday,friday and Saturday , we are performing around 300- 350 surgeries per year ,in addition to 70-100 emergency surgeries. . We have allotted strength of 28 beds in patient department (IPD) of which 11 are ICU beds and most of the times these beds are fully occupied with average 600- 800 admissions per year.
We have three faculty members Prof. M. H. Beg a senior Cardiothoracic Surgeon ,Dr. Mohd. Azam Haseen working as Associate Professor and Dr Syed Ehtesham Hussain Naqvi as Assistant Professor Cardiothoracic Surgery. Our vision for future is to start M.Ch. Cardiothoracic Surgery Course and make our department a centre for excellence where surgeons can get trained in this difficult art of surgery and serve the humanity.
