12-DEC-2013: The Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University, Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Zameer Uddin Shah inaugurated the International Training Hostel and Centre for Biodiversity Studies in the Department of Wildlife Sciences Conservation Monitoring Centre.
Former AMU Vice Chancellor, Mr. Naseem Ahmad, Administrator, Haryana Waqf Board was the guest of honour.
Professor Jamal A. Khan, Chairman, department of Wildlife Sciences urged the University administration to establish a Faculty of Environmental Sciences. He said that creation of a Department of Climatic Change is the need of the hour.
He appreciated the efforts of present University administration for renovation of RD Estate in Ranikhet, Uttarakhand and said that RD Estate is the pride of the University.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Mr. Naseem Ahmad said that the newly constructed centre is a source of inspiration to others and this is a dedication of Prof. Jamal, Dr. Afifullah and other staff. He said that life without challenge is nothing and we should accept the challenges of new century.
The Chief Guest, Gen. Shah said that he was delighted to see this centre. He said that University has prepared a vision document and it would be released very shortly. He hoped that AMU would be ranked number one amongst Indian universities with the help and support of dedicated academic staff.
Referring to the contributions of AMU alumni, Gen. Shah said that most of the alumni are devoted to their alma mater and he is very impressed with the contributions made by them for the cause of Muslims' education.
Gen. Shah said that the University is approaching several NGOs including Agha Khan Foundation for renovation of its historical buildings. He said that the Agha Khan Foundation has shown interest in preservation of heritage of the University.
Prof. Irfan Ahmad, Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences proposed a vote of thanks.
