29-SEP-2014: The Aligarh Muslim University is launching a ten-day cleanliness drive in AMU in consonance with the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan chalked out by the Government of India. The Vice Chancellor, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah will launch the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan on October 1, 2014 at 10 am at the OPD, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College.
In this connection, addressing a meeting of Deans, Provosts, Principals and University officials today, the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Brig. Syed Ahmad Ali urged the students and all teaching and non-teaching staff to participate in the drive actively and help keep the hostels, departments, offices, roads, parks and libraries in the University clean.
Brig. Ali said that such cleanliness drives have regularly been organized in the University to mark the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. He said that Islam has also stressed on cleanliness and according to a saying of Prophet Muhammd (PBUH), "purity is half of faith".
The Pro-Vice Chancellor said that he will personally monitor the implementation of the Abhiyan in University campus and special focus will be laid on upkeep and cleanliness of toilets. He said that NSS volunteers have also been urged to cooperate.
The University has also put on display banners and posters to spread awareness regarding the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
