10-OCT-2014: While interacting with the members of the teaching staff at the Engineering College, Kennedy Hall and Ajmal Khan Tibbiya College, the Aligarh Muslim University, Vice Chancellor, Lt Gen Zameer Uddin Shah (Retd) stressed that the University students' are his first priority", followed by the teachers and administrative staff.
He announced that the funds allotted for teachers to attend national and international conferences have been increased from Rs 35 Lakhs to a whopping Rs 1.25 crores. He added that, in order to encourage the research work in the institution, the teachers, with the best performance in research in a particular academic session, would be rewarded Rs One Lakh. During the meeting, the VC also declared that from the current session, the teachers would be provided a 15 days detention leave in a year.
He gave an assurance that the selection committees for all departments of studies would be held before December 31. This would provide promotion opportunities for all faculty members.
The Vice Chancellor has urged teachers to display the monthly records of attendance of students on notice boards so that they could meet the 75% attendance criteria to appear for their exams. He asserted that all admissions including nominations have been made in a transparent manner and on merit basis.
Lt General Shah has also urged teachers to contribute in raising the University�??s academic standard in order to reach the number one position among central universities by the year 2017.
The Vice Chancellor also declared that, after establishing Sir Syed Public School in Muzaffarnagar, the University plans to open a chain of schools in other needful areas and urged the community to extend their support to this venture.
Reacting to the allegations made by the former Registrar, Group Captain Shahrukh Shamshad (Retd), the Vice Chancellor stated that these allegations are �??blatant lies�??. He clarified that he had never threatened to former Registrar. The VC said that in his resignation letter, the former Registrar has informed that he wanted to retire due to �??health reasons�??. He informed that around 344 admissions done under the aegis of the ex-Registrar are under scanner and investigations are under process.
The Vice Chancellor said that it was found out that the Masters degree of the former Registrar was not recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and he had misguided the University officials about his qualifications.
The Vice Chancellor said that he was disappointed over the manner in which the former Registrar Group Captain Shahrukh Shamshad (Retd.) had used �??pressure tactics�?? in his attempt to withdraw his resignation after it had been formally accepted by the University on September 29, 2014.
He also assured the members of the teaching staff that any act of indiscipline by students, directed against them, would not be tolerated by the University authorities. I support of this, he cited the example of the suspension of a student last year after he had misbehaved with Prof. Hamid Ali in the Zakir Husain College of Engineering and Technology.
The Vice Chancellor, Lt. Gen. Shah urged the teachers to come forward and offer their suggestions on all issues and freely discuss them with him. He informed the members of the teaching staff that he would be available for such exchange of views on all Saturdays between 4.30 to 5.30 pm without prior appointment.
He called upon the members of the teaching staff to respond positively to his offer and help him in his attempt to preserve and protect the broader interests of the University.
On the occasion, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Brigadier S Ahmad Ali (Retd), Controller of Examinations Professor Jawaid Akhtar and Registrar Dr Asfar Ali Khan were also present.
Meanwhile, Dr Hasan Irtiza, Professor Hamid Ali, Dr Azhar Jamil, Dr Naseem Ahmad, Dr Anwar Khurshid, Professor Arif Sohail, Dr Arshad Malik, Mr Mustafa Zaidi, Dr Rukaiyya Hussain, Professor Shadab Khurshid, Professor Sami Rafiq, Dr Wasim Raja, Dr Rehan Raza and Dr Aftab Alam expressed their views.
