28-OCT-2014: The Vice Chancellor, Aligarh Muslim University, Lt Gen Zameer Uddin Shah (Retd) inaugurated the Drug Resistant TB Center and Paediatrics/Surgical ICU at JN Medical College. He also visited the Malnutrition Section at Paediatrics Ward, Medicine ICU, and newly established Dialysis Unit for University employees. He expressed satisfaction over the commendable efforts made by the Medical College Administration to upgrade its services.
Professor Zuber Ahmad, Chairman, Department of TB and Respiratory Diseases said that DR-TB Center has been established with the financial assistance from State TB Division of RNTCP. He said that all the patients of MDR/XDR, or with suspected Drug Resistance would be admitted in the Center, investigated and treated without any charge for entire duration. He expressed hope that the treatment of patients will not be affected by non-affordability of medicine.
Professor Ahmad added that for diagnosis of MDR TB, an LPA lab has been established in the Department of Microbiology, which is specialized in detecting resistance to refampicin and isoniazid within three days. He further said that for sensitivity testing a Liquid Culture Lab will also be established in JN Medical College. He hoped that the establishment of the lab would enable the Center to become self reliant in diagnosis and treatment of all types of Tuberculosis. He said that in the twelve-bedded DR-TB Center, full measures have been taken to prevent infections. He thanked Dr Saggarwal for providing financial assistance, Professor Tariq Mansoor, Principal, JNMC, Professor M Ashraf Malik, former Principal and other Paramedical staff for their support.
On the occasion, Professor Tariq Mansoor, Principal and CMS, JNMC, Professor Shahjahan Bano, Dean, Faculty of Medicine and Chairmen of various Departments, including senior faculty members were also present.
