29-OCT-2014: The Aligarh Muslim University Alumni Association, Chennai observed the 197th Birth Anniversary of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, the founder of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).
Dr Abdus Samad, Assistant Professor, IIT Madras, while addressing the gathering, highlighted the importance of higher education for the amelioration of Muslim Community and urged the students of AMU to pursue higher education at IIT's and IIM's.
Mr Rizwan Ahmad, Chairman and MD, Oren Hydrocarbons enlightened all with the ideas of Sir Syed and stressed the promotion of his mission by Alig fraternity. He further said that the education and tarbiyat at Aligarh prepared students to face the challenges of life with ease. He also announced financial support of Rupees Five Lac for the Alumni Association, Chennai.
Mr Najmul Huda, IPS, DCP Chennai mooted the idea of establishing Chapters of the Association at Pondicherry University, IIT Madras and B.S. Abdur Rehman University as these places had relatively higher concentration of AMU Alumni as compared to other regions of Tamil Nadu. He also called for holding such meetings frequently.
Mr Mobeen Ahmad, a Chennai Based Businessman, while deliberating upon the affairs of Association, which is still in its incubation period, proposed for its registration which was seconded by the members present at the event with thumping majority. Mr Majid Khan, a retired banker, was the senior most Alumni present at the meet.
Javed Alam Iraqi, AMU alumnus organized the meeting. Azam Sikander conducted the programme while Mohd Azharuddin Ganayee, the Chief Organizer of the meet, proposed formal vote of thanks. Around sixty alumni from different walks of life, attended the meet.
