17-Mar-2015: Dr. Syed Ziaur Rahman, Associate Professor, Department of Pharmacology, JN Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University delivered a keynote address at the ICMR sponsored National Symposium on "Pharmacovigilance in India: Perspectives and Prospects" held at Sir Madanlal Institute of Pharmacy, Etawah.
Dr. Ziaur Rahman spoke on the various publications on Pharmacovigilance and discussed the significant contributions of individual researchers, WHO Collaborating Centre for International Drug Monitoring (IMC), various NGOs, National Coordination Centre for Pharmacovigilance Programme of India (PvPI), national and international societies working on Pharmacovigilance, and large number of publishers publishing literature on this topic. Further, he threw light on veterinary pharmacovigilance and the impact of Pharmaceutical and Personal Care Products (PPCPs) on environment.
Dr. Rahman, who is an expert in the field of Pharmacovigilance, gave the concept of environmental pharmacology and coined the term "Pharmacoenvironmentology" for the study of therapeutic drugs and its effect on aquatic and terrestrial environment. He is closely associated with the Society of Pharmacovigilance India (SoPI) from its very inception, and started its official Journal of Pharmacovigilance & Drug Safety as its founding editor. He has held various key posts of the society and presently represents it as national secretary.
