13-APR-2015: Aligarh Muslim University's Department of Psychology Professor, Dr Akbar Husain was recently awarded D Litt (Doctor Litterarum, Doctor of Letters, Doctor of Literature) Degree in psychology for his work on 'Explorations and Applications of Spirituality in Psychology.'
Prof Akbar is also coordinator, UGC-SAP (DRS-1) at AMU's Department of Psychology.
With over 34 years of teaching experience, Prof Akbar has successfully supervised seven research reports to the M Ed students of University of Malaya, Malaysia, 10 M Phill dissertations and 20 Phd thesis at the Aligarh Muslim University.
He has authored, co-authored and edited 30 books and contributed 185 research papers, theoretical articles and book chapters in National and International journals and books.
In several National and International conferences and seminars, Prof Akbar has presented papers and delivered lectures including keynote lectures. He was editor of Indian Academy of Applied Psychology Journal between 2002 and 2005 and Journal of Education Research, University of Malaya in 2009. He reviews various National and International psychology journals. He has also standardized numerous psychological tests and completed four research projects.
Prof Akbar is Life Member and Annual Member of Associations of National and International repute. As a founding member of International Board of the International Transpersonal Association, USA, which was offered to him in 2009 and membership of Nyenrode Sprituality in Business Community offered in 2008, Netherlands, Prof Akbar has visited several countries for attending conferences and teaching assignments.
He has been busy in conducting researches on spiritual psychology topics including spiritual values and virtues, spiritual fitness, spiritual personality, spiritual support and spiritual distress. His other areas of research are health, counseling and positive psychology.
Prof Akbar was awarded Phd degree from the Aligarh Muslim University in 1981.
